Here's another one: http://www.nicocuppen.com/ click on "Photocopier" on the left side of the screen to get to the page with a description of the product and a download link. There is a free version with no limits but fewer features, and "Pro" version with more features but it costs $$.

I'm running XP and am using the free copier from http://www.nicocuppen.com and tried their Pro version 30 day trial. Both work. The Pro version has some extra features. The one I liked best is that you can associate the program with a botton on your scanner (if it has one), and just push the button and the copier pops up on the screen. Nice feature but not enough to entice me to pay for the Pro version after the trial expired. You have to start the free version manually but that's easy with a desktop icon.

Yes and no. The good ones do, the cheap ones often don't. What if your scanner company went out of business and you can't get updates for w2k or winxp? In addition when you get a scanner from a crap company like umax that charges you for new drivers and you upgrade to winXP sometimes you are out of luck, especially if you dont want to shell out $30-$60 (not counting tax and shipping) Heck, even HP pulled some crap. If you upgrade to winXP, you will no longer be able to use any of the software that came with your HP printer or multifunction device in a number of cases. They basically said, we put in a native winXP driver that does some features, some don't work (like buttons that do scan to print kinda things) and we won't ever make any more updates for it so deal with it. And some of this stuff is for printers and stuff that's less than a year old from HP. They also said you are out of luck with 3rd party software, and that if you want OCR you are out of luck, you gotta buy an OCR program.

I've had a few scanners that required installing a huge suite of crap just to get this one feature I wanted and the twain driver... This is great if it works right.

Do either of these linked programs scan to grayscale and/or color, or only B&W?
