From MW2 to BC2

Anyone here changed from playing Modern Warfare 2, over to BF Bad Company 2? I have been playing MW2 for a few months now and there are a lot of things I like about it; customizable weapons, challenge's/leveling, Killstreak/Deathstreak rewards, and so on. But there are also a lot of things which I find extremely frustrating. Lack of dedicated servers for one. It's not a problem a lot of the time, but sometimes lag, "host migrations," and game lobby's just plain disappearing becomes an issue. Also the amount of spawn killing, and killstreaks (while they can be cool) can really ruin the fun since your who team can be slaughtered because nobody bothered to equip a stinger. Anyway; I was thinking of making the change over to BC2 since it is now down to $30 on steam (the price of 2 MW2 map packs). Has anyone else made this switch, and if so is it worth the money, or should I just wait it out for either black ops, or medal of honor? Thanks!

I don't really think they are similar games at all. But I find BC2 to be far less annoying. MW2 and it's deployable aimbots and other overpowered killstreaks are just plain idiotic. Infinity Ward completely lost touch with what made call of duty such a great game so many years ago.

In BC2 you could call the vehicles overpowered sometimes, but they are being controlled by a person and not the computer. Also, after all the patches, BC2 has gotten much better in terms of gameplay and server performance.

Have you tried Counter-Strike before?

Yes, I've played CS a very very small amount, and have a copy of it (thanks to the orange box). Not sure I am interested in getting into it though. I am more so looking for; is it worth changing from MW2 to BC2 specifically? I've been into games my whole live, but I've only been playing online for a short while. I get the feeling if I get into CS I will get my ass kicked even more so than I do in MW2 already .

i tried but BC2 just sucks imo.

Have you played both games? I play MW2 quite a bit, but I find after a couple of hours I quit out due to frustration. In some matches I can score quite well (in the top 3 players consistently), but then other times I can have completely horrible matches where I am consistently at the bottom of the pile. I find it's tough to get kill streaks since my kill death ratio is rarely above 1.5. Some people have said you will always be dominated until you sink in at least a couple hundred hours into the game (I have played about 40 hours so far). Maybe I just don't have the patients to stick it out.

yes. MW2 is so much more fun. I can actually kill people in MW2. In BC 2 95% of the players are snipers so you get killed 2 seconds after you spawn or as soon as you try to run anywhere. Even if you manage to make it somewhere, the players are so fucking tiny you can't see them (plus they blend in with the environment). The guns are underpowered and inaccurate. It's basically the same as BF2, they just made some slight changes and called it BC2.

The single player in BC2 was fun though.

I did get tired of MW2 after about 192 hours and didn't play it for the last few months. Fired it up last night and played for a little bit.

According to Steam I've played 175 hours of MW2 and 35 hours of BC2. I don't play either game anymore because MW2 just ran it's course for me and I'm sick of it now while BC2 was mostly a lesson in frustration more than anything else.

Here's the biggest difference between the games - in MW2 you know who killed you, in BC2 you usually get killed without ever seeing the guy that got you. And the reverse is true, most times in BC2 my kills come from zapping some clueless sap that never saw me or had no idea I was there. Even when using a rush kit like Assault, often times you're just killing people that didn't know you were there. In MW2, the enemies either know you're there or they know to expect you to be where you are. So the battles just feel more rewarding in MW2 to me. It's more satisfying to get a kill when the other guy was fighting you, it just feels more fun than shooting a guy that was trying to throw out medpacks to his teamates.

Yes, the killstreaks allow you to kill people in a lame way but you don't have to use those every time. There are other good ones which don't put you at a competitve disadvantage.

In BC2's defense I will say that the matches have an epic feeling which MW2 lacks. The battles are long and varied, and there are some tremendous adrenaline rushes from being part of a squad and bunkering down, fighting for every square inch and then finally breaking through and pushing the defenders back. Awesome stuff.

So both games are good, but for me BC2 just didn't cut it. It's worth mentioning also that I'm an old school BF2 and BF2142 players. Over 250 hours invested into 2142 and over 200 in BF2. So BC2 is kind of "more of the same" but yet not quite as good as the older games in some respects for me. Whereas I hadn't played a COD multiplayer game since the first COD expansion pack (man that was an awesome game!). So MW2 felt like a breath of fresh air to me after such a long break from COD multiplayer.

I made the switch, and its definitely not going to be as easy as you think.

BC2 is a totally different game. just because you're good at MW2 doesnt mean you'll be good at BC2. As for which is better, well, they are just different. MW2 is great for fast paced action, BC2 is great for slower games and different weapons

Yes that's part of the reason I am debating whether to make the switch over or not. I know they are 2 completely different types of game. On one hand I want to make the switch over for the sake of trying something fresh, but on the other hand I have spent a long time learning the mechanics of MW2, and switching to BC2 would mean starting over from square one.

BC2 was a blast. I started playing some other games after unlocking everything, but I plan on going back.

Yes, in the past month I have shifted from heavy MW2 playing to BC2. My only disappointment with BC2 is that you can get all unlocks after like level 25, but the levels keep going (without additional unlocks) all the way to 50.

I started playing MW2 and was entertained, but once I got BC2 I have only fired up MW2 a couple times. BC2 was a bit frustrating at the early levels, but once you get a couple key unlocks and learned the maps a bit it became very enjoyable.

When BC2 came out, I stopped playing MW2 all together...that should tell you!

Exactly. I played MW2 heavily on the PS3 and switched to BC2 on PC.

What I like about BC2 is that, majority of the time, the player who contributes most to the team will score the most points. Players that don't complete objectives and run around whoring their favorite guns have a high kdr, but not necessarily the most points.

The guns feel EXTREMELY inaccurate compared to other games, especially MW2. But once you figure out how the burst fire works, your skill will take off.

In my opinion, the bullet flight time and drop make the game much more interesting. Going back to games like CSS where bullets transport instantly across the map feels archaic and cheap.

The learning curve in BC2 is greater, but the reward is much more satisfying to me.

I always thought one frustration in BC2 lies in being new and not understanding the situation in game, nor how to use it to your advantage.

I played alongside my friends who were both pretty bad newbies, and they'd often attempt to take cover in completely irrelevant places with exposed flanks, then complain they got killed from nowhere. As an experienced player it was obvious to me that they were taking cover in a stupid place but they had no idea, the maps were just too open for them to digest in their head. Games with small simple maps will always help somebody out in this situation, because you'll generally see who killed you.

Any experienced player will probably tell you they rarely ever get sniped, yet it's a complaint you hear most often from people who haven't spent much time in game.

I never took to MW2, I personally feel the maps are too small, and it just feels slow to me. The deployable aimbots are a bit silly too.

The biggest thing I hate about any Modern Warfare is that people only care about getting the kill-streaks. They could care less about objectives or helping anyone else out. I played BC2 but got bored of it fairly quickly. Only played like 30 hours. You get all the unlocks fairly quickly. It's definitely more team based and the maps are much larger and the destructible environments are great but it just got boring fast. Also I've never had trouble with snipers in BC2. Just don't run out in the open and always use cover.

I bought BFBC2 when the preorder beta deal was going on. I played the beta on and off, but couldn't really figure out why I couldn't get into it. When I started playing the full version, I figured out why. I like games that give you the ability to voice chat with your entire team, but in BFBC2, you can only voice chat with the four players in your squad. It makes communicating with your whole team pretty hard because you have to type out anything that you want your whole team to be able to hear. The lack of communication really makes it feel less like you're playing with actual people.

you think communicating with 15 other guys is easy? people talking over each other, that sounds like a nightmare. squad comm is fine, no need to involve everyone into a chat party.

If you think that's bad then try MW2. Nobody communicates at all unless its to say "i love you" or "noob." Even in team based games it is mostly every man for himself.

The only time I usually get sniped in BC2 is if I'm engaged in combat with another person enough that I move out of cover, or try to run away from a grenade. Actually it's amazing simple on some maps to snipe the hell out of opposing people because they stupidly rush on barren ground, then you get called a noob for this. But hell in real life war, you can't do that shit either.

I'll agree that MW2 is too small, too arcadish with the kill-streaks and just generally not so much fun as it's mostly a bunch of rambos playing.

Even on hardcore mode it took half a dozen bullets from an LMG to kill anyone in BC2. At least in MW2 I have an expectation of people dying. There are some really cool things you can do in BC2, but at the end of the day it just wasn't as fun for me.
