From where you live, How much over the speed limit do cops start giving out tickets?

I've been ticketed for as low as 9 over (39 in a 30) so I guess I'll answer 9.

It's coming. Cars already have GPS and logging. All that's needed is the idiot tyrants who don't understand technology to realize they can monetize it.

They've had the ability to do it on tollways for a long long time too (transponder tracking) but they don't because it would cause an instant revolt. I know if a car was going to ticket me by gps, being able to disable GPS would be a prime shopping requirement. I don't think automated tickets to that extent are going to be possible until the majority of cars on the road are autonomous. Then the punitive automated enforcement will exist mainly to keep self drivers under control and encourage them to shift over to autonomous cars.

Depends, on a 35mph zone I would say around 10 over. On a 55mph zone, probably around 20 over.

Depends on where you are :

- in Cleveland Heights, I was given a ticket for doing 36 in a 35. Same cops that gave a buddy of mine a $175 ticket for breaking a small branch off a tree (destruction of public property). Got the ticket thrown out in court for the 36.

- in Downtown Cleveland from 3AM to 6AM, it's the wild west; if you can keep your car steady at 100mph on side streets, you won't get a ticket. Just watch out for the paper trucks, because stop signs and red lights do not apply to them in this time period.

Everywhere else it's pretty much 5mph over, but on the freeways I've seen people doing 70 in the 60mph and cops just sit there.

For me personally, in the burbs of Chicago, I start writing tickets at 15 over. Generally, you are not getting a break at that speed.

On sideroads where schools are and kids play, 10-12 mph, depending on time of day and your attitude.

I am typically drive 5-10 MPH over the limit, never received a ticket for it.

Not sure if anyone from NZ has said, but usually its around 5-10 KM/p, however on long weekends they get real anal and remove the buffer to like 1-2km/p, totally ridiculous, however that been said, we had a long weekend break with zero deaths nationally across NZ...

I wouldn't try more then 2-3mph over in central NY. They pull you over for anything to raise revenue.
