i have a mid atx tower(300w), running an athlon 650 with all usual cards (agp, snd, mod, netwk) on abit ka7-100. athlon has retail h/s and fan. runs at abt 44C after a few hrs.

the case does not have an opening for a rear exhaust fan, but has one for a front case fan.

I was just wondering if i should remove the additional port cover on the back and put a rear exhaust fan, or will the front fan which blows air in be better.

Ultimately you'd like to have the fan in the front blowing in, and a second one in the rear blowing out. This would insure good circulation. If there are mounts for circulating fans (ones that just blow the air around inside the chassis), add one of those two. This should hold you

Yes, this is true. My Athlon 650 case runs alot warmer then my CII 566 case. Front and back cooling is almost a must.

I am in the exact same situation and had to get a slot exhaust fan and it cooled my system down by 2 or 3c. It takes up a pci,isa or amr slot but is worth it. Usually don't need 5 pci slots or amr anyhow.

You also want to airflow to travel throughout the case. Usually the front fan is mounting below and the rear is mounted high so that the airflow travels the entire length of the case diagonally.

I have a sunon 8cm*8cm as a front fan, I made a 2-way duct out of carton which directs the air under the video card and to processor cooler (titan majesty .. or) golden orb as you americans know it). Works rather nicely, I was able to replace a similar(noisy) sunon rear exhaust fan with a standard pentium pro fan without the case temperature rising.

I'm gonna replace the system with watercooling tomorrow tho, I might post some pictures if I can get a camera.

What is a good Mid Tower case that comes equiped with a front and rear fan setup? I know the Cooler Master 2000 comes with two front intake fans, and a rear and top blow out fans. Are there any cases that come with just the front and rear?

Most cases designed within the last year or so have front and rear 80mm fan locations, e.g. Enlight 7237, Antec SX830, and Inwin S500. Before that, most had rear 40mms or 60mms instead of 80mms..

Hmm, here's my take on the issue... buy an Enlight 7237 without power supply, and re-use your existing PS and case fan in it. It should come with a Sunon case fan, and there are spots for fans in both the front and rear, plus the power-supply fan. Egghead has it for $33 plus $7 shipping... that is pretty darn reasonable when you stop and think how beneficial it would be. http://www.egghead.com/category/inv/00077408/02765948.htm
