I just got nailed yesterday for not having my front license plate installed on my new Mazda3. I absolutely hate front license plates on sedans, so I need to find a way to temporarily attach so that I can just pass inspection.

Any ideas?

Magnets work (sometimes)

Some states you can get away with having it in the windshield also. Not sure about CA though

Uh.. lol

Who cares? It's state law. Deal with it. It's not like your car will look funny; everyone else has a front license plate too. You'll just stick out like a sore thumb without one. Nobody will think your car looks hot because it has no front license plate, they'll just think, "Wow, look at that idiot.. no front license plate.".

You can stick it in the window if you want, but that looks worse than it being on the car

The only time you should be running without front plates is... you guessed it, when you can afford to run without front plates... which usually also means your car costs somewhere north of an average median family's income.

Just put it on the car and leave it there. Is it really worth the trouble of a cop ticketing you sooner or later because they've got nothing better to do?

Heh, Ironically enough.. New Mexico doesn't use/require front license plates. So when I got my plates, I took my back Oregon plate off, and put the NM plate on.

So now my car has an Oregon plate on the front, and a NM plate on the back.. lol.

I'm sure that must be illegal. I didn't really think about it until after we got back from our 3500+ mile trip.... Of the two dozen or more cops I saw, none even hit their brakes.. *shrug*

I suppose I should take the other Oregon plate off though.

Use the towhook hole.

You can bend over and just pay the ridiculous price from several sites or just go to a hardware store and make your own. It's offset but it beats drilling holes in your bumper.

Interesting... it's illegal here to drive without a front driver's license plate, but I've been driving around without one for 4 years.... never been pulled over.

I've never had one on any of my cars. Been pulled over once for it in Cali where they're jewish with anything for cars.

Yeah those tow hook plates are damn expensive. Definitely going to figure out a way to create my own lol. Thanks.

Call your legislator and suggest he or she submit a bill to eliminate front license plates. Many states no longer require them and I see no reason California can't do so too. Sell it as a cost saving measure which it is. Lord know California needs to save some money. Tell your rep he'll look like a genius. Maybe for the first time! (Eh, might want to forget about that last comment.)

Front license plates make more money for the state. Eliminating them would cost the state money. Cost to charge for them and money they make from tickets from the pictures on intersection cameras. Most major states require them.

In the U.S., the states of Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia require license plates only on the rear of the vehicle.

So move to one of these States, put on the front license plate or pay the fine....you choose.

that offset plate looks disgusting, much worse than actually in the middle...

buy or build one of those hideaway license kits if you are so apprehensive of having a front plate

Start thinking outside of the box. You can charge the same for one plate as you charge for two. There was no change for plate fees when we went to one plate here eons ago. It could also be sold in the great state of California as environmentally friendly. Less raw materials, labor, utilities, etc. to make one plate versus a set.

I'll let you figure out the solution to the cameras on your own.

We are required to have them in NJ & NY as well. Main reason is so the police LASER gun has a target to hit. Laser does not reflect that well off body paint.

Having a front license plate has been the law here in California long before the state started using red light cameras...we're talking over a decade.

Uh, where did that list come from, 1935?

I live in Georgia so thankfully I don't have to have a forward facing plate.

I am hoping I can't get a ticket for driving to a state with this law.

You wont. If your state only requires a rear, you only need a rear

That's still not legal. Not legal in Cali.

THIS. It is NOT legal to have it there instead of on the bumper. You may not receive as much harassment for having it there instead of having nothing, but it's certainly not legal. It's also ugly, and could possibly be dangerous in an accident if you don't have it secured.
