Fry's 1.6 P4 plus Soyo Firebird mobo 349 and other deals

Fry's had the p4 1.6 retail cpu with Soyo Firebird mobo for $349. They also had a 1.8 Retail Cpu plus firebird for $399. Of course they had the 1.6 oem P4 1.6 with the Soyo Dragon ultra for 229. What is better AMD or Intel? I cannot decide between the epox/Amd 1800 deal or the p4 1.6/Soyo Dragon.


BTW 512Megs of Nanya DDR is 109 Now

Which Fry's is this? The Fry's in Southern Cali has the 1.8 with Sis verison of the P4 Dragon board.

Woops, sorry for the blank post. Yes this is the fire dragon. P4I. They had them at the Sunnyvale Fry's in California. It is the newest board from Soyo. I believe it is the new SIS chipset. The box looks pretty kewl IMHO. I just want a boxed processor with it for less than 300 and I am set!

Its not the soyo board that is based on the intel 845 ddr.

$249? The LA Times Fry's ad shows $259 for a Soyo SY-P4S Sis Dragon Ultra with retail P4 1.7. Yours a typo or Fry's advertising two different boards, one in Times and the OC Register? I like the Bay area Fry's ad better with the P1.6 with same board for $30 less...

Looks like the same board to me and Fry's has advertise things cheaper in the Orange Country Register than in the Los Angles Times, vice versa. I've seen both ways. So i guess its not a typo and its the same board, cause my buddy just got one today too at the Fountain Valley Fry's.

L. A. Times ad seems to be a typo. I went to the Burbank Store thinking it was $259 But when I got the print out it was $249!!!

Any of you guys try overclocking that one yet? I couldn't get my 1.6a + soyo dragon from Fry's to get beyond 1.92ghz. Anything higher than that was unstable. But then again I am an overclocking noob, and was doing it at everything set at default except for the FSB and the RAM which were at 122 with a 1:1 ratio. Anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate any help

Are you sure you got an 1.6a? I think the ones with the combos are the old 1.6

Everytime I try to like Fry's they pull a fast one. Like the Soyo Dragon MB and 1.7 Intel CPU combo advertised for $249. The banner on the newspaper ad says: "Valentines Day Sale" I call today "Valentines Day" and they say it's not on sale and $349. "Read the fine print" they told me. The "Valentines Day Sale" for this board ended on 2/12! So...they Enroned me. When are they gonna figure out pulling crap like this will eventually do them under. We are not stupid - it's deceptive advertising plain and clear. But, hey, today's VD and as the song goes "Don't Worry, Be Happy". Some company, somewhere with integrity will have it cheaper next week anyway...
