Fry's 3.2ghz northwood + ECS 848P-A Motherboard $250

In today's bay area ad. It's hot (or cool, rather) because it's a retail northwood, 30 resistor chip. The chip alone is $292 at the egg.

Anyone at the Downers Grove area (Chicago)? I can fly there, but I can't justify spending the money on a car rental. I guess Dallas or Houston location would be an option too.

this may sound stupid, but i forget, the amd 64 chip at 3200+ outperforms the 3.2 ghz HT in some categories, while yielding to intel on other tests correct? which would be the better buy at this point?

also, does anyone know when this processor first came out? its so much faster than my computer cause i havent upgraded in a LONG LONG time ( still running the good ol' 1600+ ) but i feel like this thing came out 1.5+ years ago.

I don't follow the AMD scene any more but I'm sure if you stroll over to the cpu forum you'd find your answers. This chip has been out for a while but it's a good buy because it's not a prescott- intel's newest chips are voltage hogs and could heat a house.

Ok so I go to Fry's and pick up this deal and ask for the 2.4C deal at $129. The ad lists it as a Box CPU and with a AMD board. Well I can understand the change of board but then they also say it is a bare CPU when I go to check out. What a dissapointment. I was going to upgrade my inlaws machine with that combo. May still go back tomorrow and pick it up anyways I was just upset and cancelled it instead tonight.

Picked up one at the Downers Grove, IL Fry's. Board was dead, but it's not like I was going to use it for any length of time longer than about two weeks...

Looked like there were a couple boards left. Of course they sold out of the Athlon64 bundle I actually wanted.

socal ad has 3 ghz and probly ecs 848p-a mobo combo for $209.99. the cpu has 1mb cache.

now a question... i purchased the 3.0 ghz northwood and ecs combo a few days ago and cant decide if i should keep it. keep the combo? return it and wait for the grantsdale/alderwood? which one? i'm in no rush to build a new computer.

I have never seen them sell out before in OR. They usually have plenty of boards on the shelves in the back with the rest of the motherbords.

I've never seen then sell out in Oregon either.
I was really bummed though when the $129.99 2.4GHz deal was bogus. They are usig the ECS board instead and not a boxed CPU

Me too, today they are advertising the 2.8GHZ boxed and ECS for $169. I am still contemplating getting the 2.4 for my inlaws. I have heatsinks crawling out of the walls, problem is I will have a load of these ECS boards now.... Time to Ebay them I guess.

Just received an email from outpost they have the similar deal for $199 same mobo but the CPU is 3.0. Maybe save myself a trip to Frys tomorrow.
