Drats, wish I had seen the Seagate before I opened the Maxtor. I've had (2) Maxtor 160GB ATA drives fail on me in the past, but this was the only SATA deal I could find. I suppose it's too late to return it to Staples?

Hard drives aren't like software where you can't return them once they've been opened. If you don't like the performance, the interface, or the color of the ribbon cable, you can still return it.
The Seagate drive only has 8mb cache, the Maxtor has 16mb. Not sure how big a difference that'll make but I guess I'll stick with the Maxtor and hope for the best.
