On FW I predicted that the Emprex 4x DVD +/- burner would go on sale at Fry's. That $79 no rebate Emprex drive is a BTC IM1004, exactly the same as the Micro Advantage drive that has been on sale for around $100 AR/AC at officemax in the last 2 months.

I used the BTC IM1004 drive for a month. Like the Optorite DD020x drives, it has pretty limited media compatibility, but without the horrible basic bugs the Optorite 4x burners have. With compatible media, it works fine. I burned many Ritek G03/G04s in it without a single coaster.

When I had it (firmware is now up to v043), it did not write to CompUSA 1x ("PRINCO" id) or Lead Data 2x ("LD" id) media reliably. I would be a little outraged about it, but my Optorite DD0201 still doesn't reliably write to those either with the latest 2.30 FW.

That 17" LCD is a Hyundai L70S (L70S is printed in the ad). I walked around Fry's yesterday to see what would likely go on sale and I saw many of the things in the 1 day ad. I'll bet many more are in the Friday weekend ad. You can look up the PLU on www.outpost.com to get details on many of the items, including the brand and model to look up specs elsewhere.

I got my Maxtor rebate just fine, but the WD rebate shouldnt be so bad. It's a MIR so it will come from WD and they come pretty fast.

I also notice that here in Houston the Fry's paper is normally more pages than this.... could it be that there will be another paper on Friday as usual???

it says on the bottom that the prices are valid starting nov 28th, and prices may change after 28th

so yes i'd say it's for black friday

I'm going to stop by Staples and get their Maxtor 80Gig first, then if there's any of the 60Gigs left at Fry's I'll grab one of them. No WD here, thank you very much.

I'm pretty certain that both are through Maxtor so they're pretty fast.

It's almost unbelieveable that some of you just haven't gone out and bought a newspaper. It's $0.50 well spent just to have the ads. The lists that have been posted aren't even close to being complete, except for Sears which was typed from a scan.

There are also many of other sales, at least in my area, for local stores that aren't even being discussed here. The LA Times today is thicker than the Sunday edition.

Any idea whats oem dvd drive is in the Emprex one? I'm pretty sure it is one made from a quality company like NEC or Pioneer, who knows? I rather get a NEC or Pioneer one for $80 with no rebates over the Liteon one at BB.

LOL! Yup, got the newspaper today and it's even thicker than the Sunday edition...will check all the ads and plan my attack for tomorrow's sale.

The ad in the second link looks like the ad in the Seattle PI today.

Nowaday Maxtor and WD just dump hard drives like garbage. I guess by the end of next year u can buy a 500G hard drive for $50AR, a dime per giga.

Thanks for the info on that dual drive from Fry's, if it were an NEC 1300 in there I would have waited it out in line to purchase and not having to deal with a rebate. So, I will be buying the Pacific Digital Dual drive at Staples and deal with rebates instead.

I hope it's true about what I read on another post that it is an NEC AD1300 dual drive, if not, someone with more information please say so.

I have a question for all the people that bought the WD 160gb hard drive. Which rebate do I send the original upc code with...the $70 rebate form or the $30?

I stopped in at Anaheim Fry's right after lunch, and pretty much all the good stuff was gone, cases were gone by 8 am, but I did farm the returns baskets ending up with $1.99 coleman light, DDR3200 memory Kbyte, Asylum Gforce FX 5600 Ultra, and FAR CD STomper. Lots of stuff was goofy, ie I asked about Nero 6 and it had the wrong sku and upc, so rang up full price with no rebate.

My guess is a LOT of people came in for the ad stuff and got stepped up to non sale items that cost more and were not as good.

Lines were insane too.
