Shame that, it would make a lovely upgrade for my Linux server.....
Yep. Same deal up here in Portland at the Wilsonville store

FYI: I picked up one of these 1.6 Duron combos for a friend when they had it for $40, and it ran great and the chip easily OC'ed to 2.0GHz on the stock voltage (just upped the FSB to 166).

All I've seen lately at my fry's (fountain valley, Ca) has been the v.8C board.

I don't need a 1.6 duron otherwise I'd be all over this one. Wonder what their return policy is on the mobo.....if you were to bring it in without a receipt and just ask for store credit. The sticker price on the board alone is about $54.99 IIRC. I'm devious aren't I?

Just returned from the Fry's in Fountain Valley CA. picked up two of these bad boys. Even though it says one per customer the cashier didn't even flinch. CSR said there were ton's of these in the store I saw at least 20 mobo's on the shelf.

Lol Mal007colm.

I was in Foutain Valley just about 20 mins ago. They had 7 CPUs left.

So I don't think the late night techers are going to get any at that store tonight.

And I thought $39.99 was a good price for this combo in January. Looks like I have some spare change to buy another.

My guide to "How to post in a Fry's thread on AnandForums" for East Coasters:

Step 1: Whine, like every other poster before you, about how Fry's should open a location in your local area.
Step 2: Repeat for every Fry's thread created until the end of time.

I got on this last week in the bay area, where you got the same board and a Thorton XP2000+. The board I got was a Rev V.6. I think I posted elsewhere that the only diff
was something about the number of supported ATA133 devices.......check out the http://www.ecs.com.tw/products/pd_spec.asp?product_id=351
site for the details. No biggie.
Edit - oh yeah, and it looks like the AGP slot on the V.8 is yellow!!! Whehaaaaaaaaa!

nope, absolutely nothing wrong with you. i'm in the same boat. i have no need for a 1.6 duron when i have a couple perfectly good cpu's sittin here with no homes. (2500+ & 2400+) they're from previous fry's deals too. i'll probably jump on the next barton or 2ghz xp deal though, and sell the ecs again.

The two 1.6/ecs combos I got in December were all V8c boards. Picked up the 1.8/ecs combo at the Austin Fry's today. Rep went to the back, and brought out a box of boards, pulled one out, and gave it me.

When I got home, I opened the box, and saw the board is marked as v6. I set it up, runs fine, ran memtst, and everything looks good. Wierd that I would get a v6 more than two months after geting a v8c board.

Probably pretty even overall. The 1.6GHz Duron will be faster in cases where the cache size is less important, like in DiVX encoding and 3D rendering. Gaming performance would be almost the same. The Duron 1.6GHz has much more overclocking potential.

http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1927 (includes an Athlon XP 1.47GHz and Duron 1.6GHz) You don't need to go far for answers here.

LOL. Now that's our mentality.

For all the whiners that there are no Fry's in their area (BTW, I'm one of them): Mods say that such bandwidth-wasting posts are bannable offences. Beware of their one and only warning.
