Fry's BA - Athlon 2000+ XP and ECS MB $49.99

Sorry if this is a repost, but I didn't see this after doing a search. Anyway, Fry's has the Athlon 2000+ XP and ECS MB for $49.99. Obviously, this deal has been around before, but I've been waiting for them to bring back the 1.8 Duron deal for $39.99, but I haven't seen it for a month now. I think I'll just get this one, unless anyone has heard of the Duron deal coming back to life.

Note that you can get either thee barton or thorton variety of the chip. Just need to give them the right part #.

sorry for the itchy "enter" finger for the post above--which is better for this ECS mobo? Thornton or Barton?

Supposedly the Barton can OC a tad better. Dunno about newer steppings though. A plus on the thorton core is that you have a larger core contact area for the heatsink and the possibility of enabling the extra 256KB of cache.

Well, I went and bought one this afternoon. I got a Thorton. I did not realize I could have asked for a Barton (as Braxus mentioned). Anyway, I changed the jumpers and booted it up at 166mhz. The BIOS showed that I had a 2600XP instead of a 2000XP. I'm currently installing Windows XP, and it seems to be working fine. Did a lot of people out there succeed in doing this, because I thought this wasn't supposed to be a good overclocking board. I think going from a 2000XP to a 2600XP is pretty cool.

BTW, sorry if I'm being lame for not knowing something that's common knowledge.

You guys may not consider it as hot, but they also have a retail Barton 2600+ with ECS N2U400-A for $119. I gave that a shot since its an NF2 board. Its not too bad, but no firewire header so I'm going to upgrade it today.
