The PS2 with 3 games (albeit, poor to mediocre games), the DVD remote and 4 player multi-tap for $179 (pending rebates) is a decent deal.

Hows the DVD burner for 79.99 with NO rebates guys?

is it any good?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On FW I predicted that the Emprex 4x DVD +/- burner would go on sale at Fry's. That $79 no rebate Emprex drive is a BTC IM1004, exactly the same as the Micro Advantage drive that has been on sale for around $100 AR/AC at officemax in the last 2 months.

I used the BTC IM1004 drive for a month. Like the Optorite DD020x drives, it has pretty limited media compatibility, but without the horrible basic bugs the Optorite 4x burners have. With compatible media, it works fine. I burned many Ritek G03/G04s in it without a single coaster.

When I had it (firmware is now up to v043), it did not write to CompUSA 1x ("PRINCO" id) or Lead Data 2x ("LD" id) media reliably. I would be a little outraged about it, but my Optorite DD0201 still doesn't reliably write to those either with the latest 2.30 FW.

That 17" LCD is a Hyundai L70S (L70S is printed in the ad). I walked around Fry's yesterday to see what would likely go on sale and I saw many of the things in the 1 day ad. I'll bet many more are in the Friday weekend ad. You can look up the PLU on www.outpost.com to get details on many of the items, including the brand and model to look up specs elsewhere.

I just got back from the Fry's in the City of Industry. Man was it crazy. The line of cars just to get in the parking lot went to the highway. The line to get into the star literally went 1 complete revolution around the building. By the time I got in, everything was gone. Oh well. All I really wanted was the case, but they only had 200 and most of the people were scooping up at least 2 or 3 in their cart.
Huh, newegg shall save me, I hope.

I just got back from my second trip to Fry's. The line was long this time, but took less than 15 minutes to get through. Fry's is really on the ball this year.

My haul:
(trip 1)
$99 GQ computer (Via Samuel 2 800MHz, 30GB, floppy, 52x cd-rom, 128MB)
$49 Canon i470D
$30AR Maxtor 60GB retail boxed drive
$59 Duron 1.8 (TBred B core) + K7VTA3 v8.0c combo
$10AR Mushkin PC2100 256MB
$98 Asylum 5600 Ultra

(trip 2)
$30AR Digifire 7.1
$200 Radeon 9800 (built-by-ati) non-pro
$8 Rival crock pot
$1.78 2 Dr Pepper 20oz bottles I'm tired and thirsty.

There is still a ton of copies of $17.99 Xbox Halo, Enermax $10AR cases, $199 DVD progressive recorder/players, 5600 Ultra and many other BF deals.

Thank you for that report. I was going to get up at 5:15am to go here as my "BF Place of Choice," but decided to avoid it like the plaque for some reason. I am glad that I did.

Just got back from the Fry's in Palo Alto. I picked up the Enermax case (last one) and the DVD player(last one) by about 6:30 AM. The line for waiting to purchase the stuff was about three minutes. I wanted to buy RAM but the line was too long. Fry's was really responsive this year to assisting the shoppers get in and out at this store.

Nope. None of the boxes had it. There were still at least 3 left on the shelf an hour ago over here.

Interesting. The ad clearly states you get HL2 for free. The sales guy said it was in the box.

It wasn't in the ad over here. Fry's did a lot of pre-emptive pricing on many items. Those have yellow shelf tags like the advertised 1 day specials.

Maybe the ones where you are did have the coupon. The 4 remaining on the shelf 1.5 hours after opening didn't have it.

Since my company is basically paying me to stay home and do nothing today, I thought I would drive over to Fry's City of Industry and check it out. OOPS! What a f*cking nightmare. I can see that nothing changed from StevenRFrancis's report from earlier this morning. Orange cones everywhere, people walking from hella far distances (since the parking lot was jammed), and a line of cars stretched waaaay back around the block to get in.

One thing I've realized in life is that I have been striken with a "shopping obsession;" unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I was passed by when patience was being handed out, so even though there'd be a huge opportunity to soak up some studly asian eye candy while waiting in line, I ended up driving right back onto the freeway to get the hell out of that area!

Man in Fremont,CA over 1000 to 1500+ in line. It was crazy. The component department line was long about 200 people long, bad considering it takes at least 5 minutes to serve each customer.

I got the Intel 2.5 Ghz CPU and ECS L4VXA2 motherboard from Fry's San Jose for $139. They were sold out by 7 AM on the motherboards themselves though.

I found the OC Register ad that states
FREE *
Half Life 2 Full Game
by Download With Purchase
of this ATI Radeon 9800
* see store for details...

I'm heading out there to ask about it now. Maybe there's a form they can give me.
