If they just offered better MB's.....is ECS owned by Fry's, why not a few more options from ECS anyway it really doesn't cost anything to speak of.

It doesn't seem to me ECS is such a bad brand. No extras whatsoever but I heard they work fine.

The Duon Combo was available online at least to last week. It's probably still on if you search.

That Duron deal is nice for a vasic PC for web surfing and email. I bought a few 1.6 and 1.8 Durons last year and have been very happy with them. That AMD64 3200+ is pretty good combo becasue that mobo has gotten good reviews, not for OCing but good enough.

They had this combo for $209 last week and 3 weeks ago at Outpost.

ECS really isn't too bad. I OC'd the 3.2E w/ECS at 3.6GHZ stock fan and it ran stable for 20 minutes. But that's when the Arctic front blew through and the garage was like 30 degrees

I think the 3200+ combo was much better at $199 . For $219 I would probably get a 3000+ and a Chaintech VNF3-250 or Epox EP-8KDA3J with much better OC capability and GB ethernet. Neither of these has firewire though so I would look to the DFI nForce3 250 LanParty UT and a 2800+. Of course the OC required to reach 3200+ will take some $$ram.

good luck finding the perfect 64 combo!

I was at Fry's last week when they also had the Duron combo for $40. The motherboard is a rather anonymous looking PCCHIPS jobbie (PCCHIPS owns ECS, but ECS is its elite division, i.e. it would be a bargain brand like Asus' Asrock for any more savory company; plain ol' PCCHIPS is absolutely the bottom of the barrel for quality and support). The box had a picture of an Intel socket CPU on it and no reference to what chipset or features it contained. However the demo model seemed to have the same VIA chip on the southbridge as the KT333 chipset ECS KT7VA3 board, so I'm guessing the PCCHIPS board is KT333 (or maybe KT266). $40 is a reasonable price for the CPU alone, but I don't think I'd use the motherboard.

No. That deal was not for a P4-540 3.2ghz, but a P4 3.2ghz. RECOGNIZE ESSAY!

If you ask one of the sales persons they will upgrade the mb for a few extra bones, I bought a combo from them a month ago and upgraded the mb for 50$ more for a abit mb. YMMV

I agree. I did however pick up a Duron/Combo for $39 + shipping a while back before I found a Sempron Deal. A lot of people complained about the PC Chips mobo but I had no problems. I got it clocked to 1.9GHz stable on the provided mobo.

Just put together the 2500 Sempron/KT600 Combo today. It's a lot nicer than the Duron Combo but also was almost twice the price $ $77 shipped.

This is my 1st Sempron build & I must say I'm happily impressed with this budget chip.

I got in on the A64 3200+ w/ECS 755A2 for $199 and it runs fine at stock. The Retail heatsink keeps my cpu idling at 28C and 33C on load at stock speeds. Overall it was an excellent upgrade from my old p3 866mhz. I am thorougly pleased with the boards performance.

I have buit a least a hundred systems using ESC boards for people who need a stable computer without a single problem. I even built me a medica center with one of them and a Sempron CPU, it is running great so far.

They'll give you a DFI combo for $289.99 at our Fry's.

Not worth it, cheaper to buy the proc/mobo @ NewEgg.

They also have a 2400 Sempron with KT600 ECS MB for $59.99 in Sacramento. I got that and the Duron for some basic work computers.

Doesn't matter....not everyone needs a sempron 2200+. I am building it for my parents, who are just going to use it for label making, word documents, and occasional dial up internet. They will only use this computer once a week also.

ecs mobos get a bad rap. ive purchased 3 of them via fry's cpu/mobo combos and they have all worked out great. i've found fry's return policy also pretty damn good and they dont give you a bunch of $hit when trying to return stuff. for as low a price as some of these deals are, ecs or no ecs its worth a shot and if the mobo pukes you can just return it and get another

Well, that was probably not at the Houston store. They will not even except the MB from a combo as a return unless you also return the CPU. This is even though they are listed and priced seperately on the receipt. Overall, Fry's customer service and policies are the pits. As for as asking a sales person anything, good luck finding one.
