Fry's "doorbusters" - tell me everything

So I get these daily Fry's emails. I'm looking to get a new TV, and they sometimes have them at VERY good prices. But they are usually "doorbusters". So I assume you have to get there right when they open to try and get one? But of the ad they sent is a 3-day a valid-for-3-days ad, does that mean they will likely sell all the TVs the first day? Seems so. But what confuses me is they send out those ads at least sometimes in the middle of the day on the day the ad prices are good for. For example, an hour or so ago I got an add that runs from today until 2 days from now. I got the ad at noon. So does that mean if I want to have the best chance of getting one of those specials I should wait for the ad then drive down there as fast as possible after I get it?

Thanks!

doesn't the Frys website have some store inventory so that you can check if your store has more than 5 which means you have more chance of getting one before you rush off?

Not sure, but I bet they have phones to call and ask.

I don't buy anything from Fry's. They seem to take their returned items and repackage them and put them back on the shelf. Without checking to see if they work first.

Just monitor Slick Deals hot deals forum and be done with it. You'll never buy anything again without checking there first.

I partially agree especially when it comes to computer components. They're notorious for repacking returns/refurbs as brand new. If you buy a laptop, iPad or other expensive computer make sure to open the box in the presence of store employees before leaving to avoid this.

This.

Now is a good time to buy an HDTV.

I have been purchasing from Frys for years and have never come across that. As near as I can tell, it is an urban legend. They do not do that, returned products have a sticker on them and are usually discounted at least a small amount.

It's happened to me twice.
Once at the Northgate store and once at Roseville.

Which they do. A tech is supposed to check item and verify functionality after it is returned and before it is put back on the floor. Most of the time they put a red label indicating that it was previously sold and marked down.

Saw a lot of $300-$400 no box/open box mobos marked down to $15/30 tagged as does not boot/broken pins. Took a risk of paying $15+tax for a plastic wrapped MSI X99S SLI Plus LGA 2011-v3 (4 bent pins).
Sent it to RMA via USPS Priority mail and got a refurb replacement in about 10 days.

The doorbusters are meant to bring a person inside the store regardless if they have the advertised item available or not. They are counting on the person to end up buying something else they didn't mean too.
For a HDTV, the ad may even indicate a specific brand or brand may vary by location. Of course the only way to find out is to visit that location. Their online inventory is pretty accurate too and calling doesn't hurt.

It's happened to me several times, almost always with cpus or memory, esp. cpus.

This was back when Fry's had those notoriously good cpu/ECS motherboard combos. The cpu was invariably a tray cpu and I got more than one that had old thermal paste on it.

There was always an excuse, but you'd have to tread carefully with your complaint...Fry's seems rather touchy when returning something sold fraudulently.

This happened in both Atlanta Fry's, more so in the Duluth store. Rarely, if ever, go back to Fry's. Microcenter has been my choice for years, now.

Yes, and you can buy online with the email coupon and pick up in store. I am a huge fan of their promotions.
