It looks like an error.
The ad's picture of the ECS K1 SLI LITE mobo is perhaps wrongly taken. It shows only one g/c pci-e slot where there should have been two.

Fry's has been known to use the wrong photos. Usually you go by the words.

This X2 4600+ is sorta getting tempting to consider for upgrading my old 2200+. I'd have to return the AGP 7600 GS I just bought, though.

Wow. This seems like a smoking hot deal.
The retailedge deal offers the E6300 which only has half the total cache (specs compared below) and signficantly slower CPU Speed. (and that is typically a smoking hot deal for retail employees. * RetailEdge deal comes with a legit copy of MS Vista)

E6300 1.86 GHz 1066 MHz 65 nm 2 MB cache LGA 775
E6600 2.40 GHz 1066 MHz 65 nm 4 MB cache LGA 775

The sale is on again - I edited the post.

Now, I just need to decide what to do.

I have an old 2200+/ECS K7S5A based gaming system w/1GB DDR, for which I just bought a $105 7600GS AGP card.

I also have an old Antec Sonata case, and have recently ordered parts towards a second system, a new high-end case, 2GB DDR2 800, and a 320GB SATA drive.

My current system is 'adequate' for many old games I play, and games like EQ and WoW.

If I build a new system, it'll be mainly for use with big screen gaming (42" LCD and/or front projector), and possibly some PCHT.

As many of us know, it's tempting to almost get into buying for its own sake when you see good deals. I have to catch myself from wanting both of the above deals.

Choosing between both of the above, one question is whether to get the X2 4600+ to upgrade my old 2200+ system; downside includes having to return the new AGP card.

Advantage includes using the old 1GB DDR RAM. Another question is whether to use the old Antec case I have sitting around for the new system; now it's a cheap case/PS.

And another is, in building a new system, whether to just keep my old system as it is, and buy one of the above deals for the new system.

The E6600 seems a bit more attractive if for nothing else than having more current DDR2 memory. I'm still on the fence how much I need the new system anyway.

Any tips are welcome - this part probably belongs in the general hardware forum.

any reviews of this board? is it any good? i'm kind of a newb to building computers, but interested in building a new rig. I was lookin at the e6300 or e6600 for processor, but have heard that these processors are essentially made for oc'ing... would you want to overclock w/ this MB? any help is appreciated....

The ECS 965P-A is a good basic budget board. You won't be able to overclock with it and currently doesn't support DDR2 voltages above 1.9v

Would that be an issue for Corsair XMS2 Tinwxs 800 MHz?

It'd sure be nice if they made compatibility issues more user friendly.

The pricing is wrong on the AMD combo. There are signs up instore saying it was a printing error. The $199 combo is for the ECS mobo and the 4200+. It bummed me out, after having driven a half hour to get what was advertised.

Is the Intel Combo a Retail CPU or is it just a bare CPU without the HS

Correct- I got screwed for an hour drive on that one too...
...so unless anyone gets lucky, the 4600+ and MB for $199 is denounced and disclamimered by Frys as a typo and is not honoring it...

Edited to say 4200+. I don't think I've seen an error out of hundreds of Fry's that wasn't on the 'underpriced' side. You have to wonder how accidental the errors are.

I went in Sunday at the Downers Grove, IL Fry's and the typo was in the ad. The salesman said it was for a 4200 but he would honor the deal or I could get the 4600 with the ECS SLI board for $199. I went for the later and am very pleased.
