If anyone wants the mobo & the 1800+ send me a PM. I'd like to get $90 shipped for both

In a thread about $89 for new XP2400 + crap board this guy wants $90 for used XP1800 + crap board.
Hilarious!

Well in the process of cleaning up my computer last night, I fried my CPU and mobo

I ended up driving to the Fry's in Fountain Valley, CA (close to my gf's house) and buying the combo there. Most of the ECS mobos were returns (Fry's is notorious for this), but I did manage to snag a brand new board/cpu combo for $89.99 + tax I also bought a Coolermaster heatsink/fan combo for $11.99 + tax. Today I plan to buy a 120MB HDD and I'll be installing Windows XP Pro on it.

If everything works like it's supposed to, it's an excellent deal and an excellent value for $89.99... money well spent

...just my 2 cents

Fry's MB/CPU deal is legendary. I am know close to 20 ECS/AMD combos from Fry's. Two DOA MB and two BIOS upgrades when the board wouldn't recognize peripherals. If you experience some flakiness be sure to flash the bios. Fry's repackages the RMAs so make sure that you receive a new MB. I made a mistake in not checking in the parking lot and had to go back when the board did not post. Check your MB in the parking lot! If you receive a RMA board return it immediately. More than likely the board will be still good, but some careless noob might have bent a capacitor and bent it back - you will not even know it. The pro version, IMHO, should be thoroughly checked. I have found two incomplete bios runs. Easy fix but maddening if you can't figure right away. Two RMA ECS MB, but I have also had two RMA Abits.

I picked up this combo as well from the Fremont Frys along with a Coolermaster HSF. Great deal... but man, anyone else's combo running HOT? My idle cpu temp is around the low 50s while after watching the HD version of T2 played through WMP9 (cpu load around 80%), the cpu temp hit 60C even with the case open :Q

The ambient temp was pretty warm.. i'd say around the low 80s, but my P4 1.6A@2.1 idles in the low 30s and under load goes to at most 45C under the same conditions.

Called the Sunnyvale store and bought this combo about 4 weeks ago.

Had it shipped here to Corn County, Iowa.

Cost was $140.00 w/shipping, HSF and 2yr warranty on combo. (shipping was $14.00 and warranty was $35.00)

Not too bad of a deal (IMHO-cheaper than livin' in CA)to have shipped UNTIL....Got the board DOA.

Called and called and called and called and called...you get the point.
Could have done the Children of the Corn deal w/ a few of the CSR's I talked to.

Finally got thru to store mgr and got a $35.00 credit, it took Fry's a week to turn around the replacements. No one would call me back. I was MAD!!!!

After RMA, Fry's bench checked replacement and sent overnight. (thank you Fry's)

Got it all up and goin now, running speedfan - CPU runs at 2.2Ghz!!!! Cheap fast POWER!!

I would recommend this combo to anyone, I'm a newbie to building systems and all went together well. I'm in Farm county, USA w/the fastest $105.00 computer in town!!!

I know for sure the cd is good adn the motherboard is good because I used the same one on a different motherboard and it worked. Ive tried 2 of them and both were similarly unstable.

I would suspect your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive first.

Yes.. either that or possibly a piece of memory that does not like...

Are you using an ATA100 cable? If you are try a plain Jane 40 wire cable.
I have run across that problem all the time.

Hehe, I got mine with a $12 Coolermaster HSF for free - huge it was too, albeit aluminium instead of copper, but for a freebie what can you expect?! ;o)

Mine runs like 42-48C with that cooler, and 4 case fans, so not worth me buying another HSF to drop a couple of degrees. Although I recommend a Volcano 7+
if you don't mind the noise too much - my Tbird 1.4@1.6 gets lower temps than the XP2000+ even at the quieter 5000rpm.

Sunnyvale, CA Fry's had the $89 2400+ combo on Monday when I was there, plenty of stock too.

I got USB1.1 and 2.0 working fine with XP Pro SP1a - you need the manual to figure out the pin assignments on the headers for the front USB ports, or just use the rear ones.
USB2.0 will need drivers from the CD. I have often heard that USB doesn't work too well with 2K/98 on this board.... I think they're enabled by default in the BIOS though.

Yeah, the shop floor guy just gave it to me, and it rang up free.... It was the 25th Anniversary sale when all their computers were down, so I guess it may have been a screw-up. I got a 64Mb USB drive for free too (instead of $14) I *almost* got my $48 Yamakawa DVD player free too when the guy almost forgot to add it to his list to add up using the calculator!
