Frys in-store pickup a hoax

I was in need of an HP C9730A black toner cartridge on Friday, so I looked around at Staples, Office Depot, and other common places, but only Frys had this cartridge in stock.

I called the store nearest me, and they said they had 1, so I go online and use the new store pickup option that they have available. I go through the whole process, and get an email notifying me that the item is reserved and ready for pickup at the store location I selected. I think, OK this is great!

I drop by on Friday, and they DON'T HAVE IT! They guy at the desk says I can drive almost 30 miles further to the next closest one to get it, or over 45 miles to the next one and pick it up! I rejected that ridiculous offer, and they said they could put it on a truck and have it here today (Saturday)... at least a day and a half later than they said I could pick it up.

The thing is, I needed it *yesterday* or I wouldn't have even got it there! What kind of recourse do I have? I'm certainly not going to pay full price for this extriemely inconvenient blunder that was entirely their fault. :disgust:

Make a big scene. Hopefully they'll give it to you for free. Make sure to say fuck, twat, bitch, shit, crap, tat, homo, and lovely human numerous times or else it won't work.

After picking it up , get into the line again at the customer service and get a refund.

My guess is that the person you called just looked in their system and it said they had (1) in stock. When you ordered, it probably reserved that (1) for you but somewhere along the line that (1) cartridge was either misplaced or (more likely) stolen. Honestly its not their fault if it was stolen. Should the clerk have checked when you called? Probably - but maybe they were new and didn't realize what an issue theft is at stores - or maybe they had a line full of people who actually came into the store to help. I do not mean to be rude, but most stores give priority of help to those people actually there since they are more likely to actually buy something. I am not saying that you weren't, just that there is a very high percentage of people who call, say "Ill be right there to get it" and then never come to pick it up.

I lol when I was working at circuit city when people where like "but I need it now!!". Why the fuck did you wait until the last minute to get it if it's so damn important?

Inventory systems aren't always accurate. You won't believe how many people steal shit. (and it's usually grown adults that do it) Especually ink. They probably checked inventory, inventory showed it in stock, but in fact the last one was stolen.

So your problem is because of a thief, not that they are trying to scam you with a hoax. "Yeah, lets run a successful business.. but instead of actually selling things, we'll tell people we have them and haox them. lolers!"

When you call a store, the person that answers the phone is usually with several customers and doesn't have the time to search the shelves for 10 minutes to find it. Or they could put you on hold for 10 minutes.. tell the 3 customers they are helping to hold on. Because the person on the phone is more important! Then those 3 people would be on ATOT bitching because in-store customer service sucks.

Basically it breaks down into 3 possible solutions for the sales person on the phone:

1: Put you on hold, help the other customers(even though it make take several hours to do this), then come back to the phone several hours later

2: Tell current customers that they have to wait on a new customer that is on the phone

3: Quickly check inventory, it says there is 1, so report that one in stock and move on.

Obviously #3 is the best solution. But to the standard-issue dumbass customer, it's always a fucking haox.

Most stores don't send you the "Come and get it" email until someone in the store has actually taken it off the shelf and tagged it with your name. If Fry's just send you an email when they may not have it, that's pretty F'ing retarded.

It sucks, but inventory systems aren't always accurate. If they said they had 3-5 left, as they would probably have had at least one real unit in stock, but at 1 unit left in the computer, it could have been missing and just unaccounted for because inventory had yet to be performed.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but you really seem to be overreacting.

The world's an imperfect place - screws fall out.
