Well, I swung by there today to see if I could catch any workers around but by the time I was heading home from work, everybody had left. However, I did take a peek through the front doors and the place is pretty barren. They have some hanging lights, a bit of random trash and furniture (shelves) laying around but it is mostly just a huge open area with nothing in it. So it's looking like 2+ months at least...

Whatever you do, do not miss the grand opening day at a new Fry's. The best deals I've seen by far in the ATL store were on that first day.

I'll be sure to keep that in mind. I'll make sure I schedule the first half of the day off at work.

don't tell that to the Chicago people. i don't think we've gotten one decent deal since the place has been open.

I'd guess there will be one outside Cincy paged for construction by the end of the year. Hopefully they'll help Microcenter realize their prices suck a big fat one.

You would be suprised how quickly they can merchandise a new store. I work for a retailer, and once they get their CO (Certificate of Occupancy), it's WFO to get the registers ringing!

It looks like the Fishers Indiana store is getting close to opening, I was by there last night and the Fry's sign is up on front of the building and the whole store was lit up.

When I swung by there the other day, they had no signs up. Maybe this is a good sign...

Yea we have had that microcenter in Cleveland for about 15 years too!
Actually, MicroCenter is the oldest computer store, at least east of the Mississippi. They are headquartered here, and have mfg. ops. and two stores. I bought my first real PC from them, and they were the only store that sold them. IBM PC 8088 w/DUAL 360K FLOPPYS and 256K of RAM ... swapped the CPU at purchase, think it was an NEC v30 or such that they put in place of the original 4.88 MHz 8088, and bumped the memory up to 640K for an obscene price. I went with an amberchrome monitor, looked cooler than the green ... it was the hottest rig at the time. Finally Compaq broke the monopoly, and Leading Edge showed up too.

Today I, too, noticed that they had a big sign on the side of the building that faces I69. Right above the main entrance. This is be very bad for me as my company has an office right there in that office park near the building. "Hey boss, the 5 of us are taking a new mouse to the other office, we'll be back in a few hours!" "What? Yea, very important that we make sure this is done right, it really will take that much time!"

I had no idea Fry's stores were so big. I was only in Incredible Universe once on opening weekend and that place was just massive inside.

I swung by there again hoping to catch a construction worker to ask when it was opening up but everybody was inside and I didn't have enough time to probe too much to try to get somebody to come out. But on the inside, the showroom floor looked much cleaner than the last time I was there. They also had either some counters or offices mostly built on the north side of the showroom floor (if they were offices, they were missing the glass walls from the waist-high solid walls that were built). They still have no product shelving, no checkout lanes, and no product that I could see. However, I did notice that 2 RVs were parked nearby so maybe that means a couple managers are now living in the area for a few weeks until the store opens! (one can hope)

Finally found a construction worker outside - he said he thinks it would probably be about 2 months or so when they open.

We build stores in malls and the last one was in Dayton, Ohio. We finished on Friday and the store opened for business on Monday. When they get their occupancy permit, these stores bring in a ton of people and stock them almost over night. They need to get it making money to pay for the construction and everyday open means a lot of money to them. This store will go from construction to open seemingly overnite.

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm expecting. I'm going to check a few more times to see if I can get an exact date still. I'm hoping a couple months is the construction guy not realizing what you said.

Another Fry's Question, Does anyone know how many hours a part time employee needs to average per week to get employee discount? Any current Fry's employees (at another location) know what the discount is?

I sure could use an insider, or be an insider for some hot deals if it requires under 10 or so hours a week...

Another Indy AT'er here waiting for Fry's to open. Of course the downside is we will have to pay taxes on Oupost.com purchases.
