Would this board be faster than an Abit Kr7A?
It's a KT266A vs KT333 chipset but I'm a bit hesitant to switch out the Abit mobo for an ECS board.
I'll be using an Xp1600+ AGOIA on the board BTW.

One last thing, you're basically getting this board for free so people shouldnt complain about quality, or performance.

Hey, what power supply are you using? And what kind of memory do you have? I just put in my order for a new nf7.

My rig is going to be

2500+
nf7
mushkin DDRAM 1gb PC3500 2-3-3 level 1
Dragon Orb 3 heatsink and fan- i wonder if this is going to be ok. I hope so.
HighPower 340w power supply - Does anyone know if this will be ok? It only has 15A - 12V .
Here is a good article i found... How to determine how much W you need

I am not sure if the barton 2500+ can be used on the KT266A Northbridge. I have the Soyo Dragon Plus, and it has that same chip, and i do have my 2500+ now, but i don't dare to put it on.

Well the barton is going into an Abit NF7-S.
I'm split on putting my current XP1600+ into the ECS or the ABIT KR7A

At these insane low prices for the combos I think I will buy this one and the 2600+/ECS nForce combo too.

You are correct in not attempting putting the 2500+ into your Soyo Dragon Plus. I have the same board and the max it can take is an Athlon XP 2100+ Palomino core. It must be Palomino. I've been going nuts trying to find that chip at a decent price retail or oem (I'm scared to death of auctions)

I would LOVE to get in on this deal at Fry's, but I'm in Chicago :`(

Just outta curiousity, does this board that comes "free" with the 2500+ have sound and LAN capabilities built-in?

The deal in Wilsonville Oregon is $94.95 for an XP 2600+ bare CPU & the ECS N2U400-A nForce2 Ultra 400 MB... No sales tax

Called and confirmed this is a XP 2600 Barton deal!

Yes to both. The K7VTA3 also has IDE Raid. To be on the safe side I would recommend always using a PCI network card instead of the onboard LAN. The PCI cards can be had dirt cheap now, and they along with the onboard LAN are very sensitive to lightning and surges so using a PCI card keeps from possibly damaging your MB if something happens.

IDE Raid?? You sure about that? The one I got doesn't have it, and ECS doesn't list it for any of their 8 K7VTA3 revisions. BTW this locked 2500+ I got has been rock stable at 2200mhz (3200+) at default voltage for the past 20 hours running Prime95.

Sorry about that. I didn't realize they had done away with Raid on these boards. I had built one using an earlier revision that had Raid.

Yeah, around ver. 3 had the extra IDE. I was looking at the ECS site and was beginning to get excited (I've got a _load of PATA drives).

I posted this in the other fry's thread by mistake, didn't see this one yet

Just got back from the fountain valley CA fry's......picked up these combos:

ECS K7VTA3 (KT333) & OEM Barton 2500+ $74.99

Shuttle AN35N Ultra & retail boxed 2200+ $99.99

I figure to sell the ECS for about $35 shipped and the 2200+ for about $50 shipped.

That leaves me with the Shuttle & Barton 2500+ for right about $100. A sweet deal IMO!

I still don't know why they're selling the Shuttle board (400fsb) with a 2200+ (266fsb) that just don't make sense...but that's fry's for ya.

That's a good idea You should probably test the K7VTA3 board though, Fry's isn't the best with having cheap working mobo's in stock

How are you guys getting 2200-2400 from the K7VTA3? The max FSB is 199. Unless the cpu is unlocked, ther is no way to exceed 2200, and it seems thay are all locked now.

Also I don't think there is a PCI/AGP divider on the board, so the video and HD are way overclocked, this would most likely cause problems. Someone tell me if I am wrong on any of this, or is some of these posts just BS?

I have an XP2500 in an Asus board that runs at 200 FSB perfect with no other changes. I bought the combo yesterday for my wifes computer and am running 166 until I get a new motherboard. I am afraid to try 199 without a pci/agp divider.

Just got back from the City of Industry, CA Fry's and returned the XP2500+ combo. It was unstable for some reason. I tried to exchange the motherboard since it was a ECS K7VTA3 v6.0 (Via KT333CE) but I couldn't find any v8.0 (Via KT333CF). They had stacks and stacks of the motherboard (probably 100+) but a random sampling of about 10 boxes yielded no v8.0s. I know I got one a few weeks ago with a Duron combo at another Fry's so they are available at Fry's. You can look on the left side of the box's inside flap and it'll show you the version number towards the top. You'll have to move the box wrap down slightly and separate the inside flap from the side of the box to see it.

the price tag on the box actually states it was a "K7VTA3 v.8C", at least that's what mine was like at the fountain valley location.

I sold mine for $35 shipped, unloaded that puppy as fast as I could. never opened it.
