Fry's price matching "internet price" now

This is news to me. In today's Orange County Register ad, Fry's says "We will meet any internet price from any authorized dealer.."

The item has to be in stock, ready to ship, and they will only match the shipped price.

Their 30 day price protection policy also covers online prices with 110% of the difference being refunded, or 100% of the difference if Fry's itself has the lower price.

I assume this is not just for the Southern California Fry's stores. Can others confirm this in their ads in other areas?

(also, if this doesn't belong in Hot Deals, mods, please move it to the appropriate section)

Dealing with the 'tards that Fry's hires makes the hassle of price matching almost not worth it.

Good news either way, long overdue, & I'll most likely still check NewEgg first, but it's a step in the right direction. Looks like the bean counters finally realized they need to be competitive.

Their GPU pricing tends to be 15-20% higher than NewEgg, which I think is nuts, but apparently tons of people still pay those prices.

I thought I caught note of that while returning something to Fry's recently. Saw a sign posted that said what you're saying here in one of the San Jose Fry's stores.

About 3 years ago I tried to get them to match Amazon's price on a new LCD and they didn't go for it then.

What I would really like is to be able to pricematch an online order from Frys with a B&M Microcenter deal, yeh, dream on... hahaha

Well I was in need of a GPU last weekend, and I don't mess with MIR's generally, so I brought in a printed price from Newegg for an XFX 6950 for $299.99 and Fry's was selling the same card for $329.99. They looked it up (took about 3 mins) and they adjusted the price right there for me. I say it's a good thing since the only other "good" alternative for me is Newegg, which also charges me Cal sales tax and shipping, unless free. But then you still have to wait for the item, and if it bad or you don't like it, 15% restocking fee -- Fry's: none.

This was announced a while back, in 2010. But anyways, ya its pretty cool. Gives potential for some cool future after rebate deals and such.

This is a hot deal for me. I'd rather pay the expense of taxes and have the convenience of walking into a BM store if something was wrong.

My local Fry's (I have 2 local Fry's) has historically been excellent regarding exchanges, returns and other customer service issues.

HOT!

In my experience with Fry's the chances are very high that they will not have the item in stock anyway.

Where or should I say, with whom do I talk to for price matches? The goofs in Customer Service in front, the goofs in each Department who print out the sales tickets, or the goofs at the registers? I've never done a price match at Frys.

I hope it's not with the drones in the aisles. Usually those guys stare at you like deer in headlights when you try to talk to them.

I'm interested in knowing this too. If the Indy Fry's has the same policy, this is definitely awesome news.

Well, they should be, their prices are so damn high, excuse my French. That was my impression when I went in there, just walking the aisles and checking things out.

For me not so hot because I'm 16 miles from the nearest one (I never go out there, so it would be a special trip), and ~32 miles from the next closest one, which I go not far from once in a while (maybe every 3 months). I've been checking out the Frys ads in the daily paper, but never see anything that interests me. However right now there's a good deal on a HD and I plan to go get it tomorrow probably, even if I have to drive 16 and back.

PMing Newegg would be nice.

Will they PM a rebated price (i.e. price minus rebate)?

Most likely no.

I just went tonight to return a webcam and bought a new cable modem. I wanted the Linksys CM100 and they had it for $69.99 while Newegg has it for $59.99 + $4.99 shipping. They matched the price but also add in that shipping as well. Still got a couple bucks off and it wasn't that much of a hassle. You do have to get a customer service person out on the floor though to look it up and print you out an invoice.

That's the one Newegg frequently sells refurbished for $15-25 when on sale. I like them...smaller size than the equivalent Motorola.

If I were to buy a new one, I'd probably go for the DOCSIS 3.0 Motorola SB6120 at Costco for $79.99. Pretty sure Fry's just had them on sale for that price too.

I will probably head over to fishers friday and check. I am too lazy to call lol..

From a thread at another forum it appears that this is nationwide since a conference call went out a bit ago notifying them from their home office.

Some recent changes with bundles and the dropping of the weeklong sales ad on frys.com among others..

doesnt someone on the forums work there? :whisltes

Here are all the details and fine print on the new policy, every newspaper I have seen telling about the policy says go here for more info.

http://www.frys.com/onlineads/0001507075

# Offer does not apply when price includes rebates, special program or educational discounts, bonuses, free offers, gift cards, rewards points redemptions, coupons, promo codes, bundled items or one-of-a-kind or limited-quantity offers.

^^ Thats how when you show up to the store they reject your claims, and your basically out of luck. Get it? Its just another scam. That disclaimer gives Frys a non binding out. Those of us who have shopped at Frys alot know all their crap. Bate and switch techniques, advertising items that they dont have in stock, also the new "price to low to show" scam they run in their ads.

What about matching to an online retailer that no sales tax is required upfront on?

For example, online retailer has TV for sale for $1,000 and they don't charge sales tax or shipping.

Fry's in CA has the same TV for say, $1,300, plus sales tax of 10%. Will they match the price to $1,000 inclusive of the sales tax they have to charge? Or do they match it to $1,000 plus sales tax of 10%?

this is correct. frys is a scammer and anandtechers shouldnt support them. shop mc instead, they are giving out the real deals. they sell for their up front advertised prices, no scamming/no games and they have the stuff in stock all the time.
