todays ad shows the Q6600 for $848 with a free mobo of your choice (listed above).

the proc itself is $878 at newegg so a free mobo makes it pretty hot no?

If I was buying a mobo off someone I would expect to pay a MUCH cheaper price than if I bought from, for example, a direct warranty honored vendor like Newegg...

the eVGA board is ~$250 so i agree that you could sell the board for even around $200 and still get the chip for around $700 which is pretty hot.

this is 100% overkill for gaming... unless you're compiling code, rendering video, or performing other cpu intensive tasks while also gaming.

most of today's games aren't optimized for dual cores, let alone quad cores; things will change as new games get released beyond Q2, but by then the price of Q6600 is expected to come down to the $500's. Currently only a handful of apps, such as video encoding, benefit from quad cores. Vista supposedly was also written with multi-cores in mind.

This is an Excellent deal for someone who believes in building a rig based on the Core 2 Quad. Absolutely no question about it.
