this is a nice combo for a budget system, with all the frys specials including ram for $59.00 and 80 gig wd retail box for $49.00 and i dvd writer for $59.00 add a good video card and you got a nice system for around $400.00

Yes they overclock very well. I've yet to find one that won't do 2.4 ghz on 1.6 vcore or less. The 256 cache doesn't seem to make much of a difference except for a few select applications. It really is a nice little chip.

Maybe I missed it...but what board does it come with?

Yes, you can pverclock this processor almost 40%, but you need a better MB to do it. I have the DFI Lanparty 250GB UT and it overclocks like crazy. (you also need good quality memory for my specific MB, so be prepared to spend extra on that as well)

yes it is the 755-A2 Mobo with SiS chipset. i just got home with mine a minute ago... also got the 512mb ddr, 80gb maxtor hd and cd-rw all for 289.

Well, the 3100+ Sempron is a 64bit chip with one of its balls chopped off..., I mean the L2 cache is chopped off by half to 256kb.

Well, the 3100+ Sempron is a 64bit chip with one of its balls chopped off..., I mean the L2 cache is chopped off by half to 256kb.

It's the same core as Athlon 64 processors but the 64-bit functionality has been disabled. Don't buy this expecting to run 64-bit Linux or Windows.

Otherwise, this is a really great deal.

I look at it this way.

If you need something that's as cheep as can be for some gaming. The $160 CPU Motherboard combo can handle any current game thrown at it. The $40 saved will make a bigger differance in performance if added to the video card or memory.

hm thats a tough call. I dont know how it oc's but i wouldnt expect anything w/o a pci/agp lock. I just finished installing winxp sp2 and all drivers. its pretty fast...feels the same as my a64 3000+ which is 2ghz not 1.8 like the sempron 3100. it sux to have such a nice chip for OCing and not be able to do so. other than that the mobo seems fine...stable and everything works no issues yet..

I am curious about these mobos...will this handle a 250 gig drive directly off the IDE channel or do you still need to install a ATA card. Thanks
