ECS GF7050VT-M motherboard and E7200 cpu for $129.99. Basically the motherboard is free.
ON EDIT: The cpu is retail, with HSF.

Tagan ITZ700 power supply for $74.99 and the Tagan Monolith-BM case for $74.99. A very nice setup for the price. I think (stress think) this is the same case as is shown here on Newegg

The power supply can be seen here on Newegg

The ad also shows the Q6600 cpu (no motherboard) for $189.99. No idea if this is OEM or Retail.

They also have the Compaq notebook back for $399, a very nice deal. Basically the same as the one I recently bought from Staples for the same price.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology
1 GB DDR2 memory
120 GB hard drive
DVD+/- RW with Double Layer
802.11 b/g Wireless
15.4 inch TFT screen

Here's a link to the notebook on their web site (online price of $449, not $399 as in store). This notebook can be fairly easily reverted to XP.

Wow, that's HOT on the CPU/motherboard! I want! Too bad Fry's is 1½ hours from here ($4.30/gal gas and $5 worth of tolls).

I picked one of these up last week but couldn't get that board to recognize the .5 multiplier. Don't remember what it was running at but I moved the cpu to another board and put a celeron-L on the ECS and it worked fine.

The monolith is a beautiful case when you look at it from the "non-door" side. Then you see the door with the case fans and you cough and die a little inside.

The PLU is 5101696. That's a retail box processor. (I got one with an ECS G31T-M motherboard for $199.99 a couple of weeks ago.) You'll probably get a SLACR version, but if you want to overclock, ask them if they have one with a pack date from January. (The newer ones don't overclock as well because they have a higher VID, which makes them "total crap", whaaa-whaaa!)

We discussed that motherboard in the Hot Deals forum a few weeks ago when it was paired with the Core 2 Duo E4500:

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...eyword1=ECS+GF7050VT-M

I don't have an opinion on it, since I haven't even tried to use it. (No chipset drivers from NVidia for Windows 2000, so count me out.)

That E7200 CPU/GF7050VT-M motherboard combo was on sale for the same price during the Fry's Anniversary Sale a couple of weeks ago, which was a very "special" sale. I'm surprised they're selling the same combo for the same price during one of their "regular" sales. Maybe Fry's is getting ready for some even better deals on the FSB1333 Wolfdale processors. The great thing about Fry's is that you don't have to wait long for a good deal to come along.

that's what i decided to do, just ordered this motherboard from newegg

if i sell the ECS for at least $20, I'll have saved $10 off the processor....not a hot deal by any stretch of the imagination

I just got back from the Fry's store on the Southwest Freeway in Houston. The E7200 cpu is Retail, complete with HSF. I looked very hard at the Tagan Monolith case, and ultimately decided to leave it alone. Yes, it's big. Yes, the two H-U-G-E fans on the side are impressive. But the fit and finish were not impressive (certainly didn't remind of an Antec, for instance). If it came with a decent power supply, okay. But without a power supply, I didn't feel like it was worth $75 of my money.

Talked to a friend of mine who lived close to Fry's. The Chicago Fry's had the E7200 in stock at the sale price, but it wasn't advertised in the newspaper ads. Limit 1/customer, so he couldn't buy two (one for me). Ah well, didn't need it anyways. :brokenheart:

That usually works if you buy stuff off the shelf and take it to the cashier yourself, especially if the crowds are big. But sometimes it doesn't work if the manager notices what you're doing. They actually watch what people are doing on their video cameras.

If you have to get a quote from a representative at the Components desk for a processor, memory, CPU/motherboard combo, etc., the stores in my area will not let allow more than one per person. They're pretty strict about it. If I really want more than one item, I have to take a friend with me.

I have to agree. I have cycled through the store twice when buying off-the-shelf items, such as hard drives and blank DVDs. But motherboard/cpu combos are a different thing entirely.

And a quick update on the E7200 cpu. I did not even try it on the included motherboard, installing it instead on an Abit IP35-E, along with a Big Typhoon hsf. After a minimum amount of testing, I achieved 365 mhz times 9.5 multiplier, for a speed of 3467 mhz. This with a very modest voltage bump to 1.1725 volts. This result tested stable with Orthos (blend) for one hour, with maximum temperature (via RealTemp) of 68 degrees.

To tell the truth, I was a little disappointed. After reading of other's experience, I was hoping for 4.0 ghz, or at least 3.8. Buy my cpu was not stable at 3.6, not even with the voltage bumped almost to 1.4 volts. Oh, well, luck of the draw.

68 sounds to hot.. wonder if your mobo is prob or if that cpus limit is around there. other post before you said to get a jan date cpu.. . was thinking about getting e7200's to replace my e6400 setups but opted to wait for cheap e8400's that i know can overclock with double the cache.. altho if i lived 100 miles closer to frys id consider it.. maybe ill get my sister to pick up some combo's she is 5 mins away ;/
