two notes:

a) This device connects to your motherboard via a 10 pin header only!

When they had it on sale last time I got me some but returned them all, as I only have standard USB ports and none of the 10 pin connectors.

So check your motherboard. None of my Compaq's or hell's had such a connector.
I remember some older boards had such "extra" USB connectors.

b) The media reader has only USB 1.1 speeds, not USB2.0 .

edit because I see what you're saying. The media reader part of the 6in1 only transfers at 12Mb/s.

I went to the Fry's in Campbell and they have a Ad retraction printed out that the price in the ad was a mistake and it is for $19.99 with NO MIR.
I laughed at the guy there when he pointed it out and told him that I already got one at the Palo Alto store for $14.99 with a $10 MIR.

Funny I thought their computer systems were all linked up to show the same price!

The cashier then took us over to the "customer service" counter where Claudia somethin tried to say that its $14.99 - 10rebate "as advertised." We said no it wasn't it was $19.99 with a 15 rebate but that because Fry's screwed up, they were honoring the 4.99 price w/o a rebate. Well after about 30mins of debate with her she approved us for 4 readers and sent us over to the motherboard/cpu/hard drive department to get a printout for that price. The cashier took us there and told the guy there to print it for us because Claudia approved it. Well the prick wouldn't print it out saying its limit one. The cashier said there were enough of us for 1 each. He wouldn't print it so he calls the store manager (Maxwell Marcelli or somethin like that) over. Well that a$$ took his time and waited til after 9pm to show up and flat out said "no" to us and walked away. So after waiting for over an hour on this "deal" we were back to square one. We walked over to Claudia asked her if she approved us for that price, which she answered yes. We had her call Maxwell back over and again, he was rude and just said no and walked away. So we raised our voices and were gettin ready to cause a scene. He finally wanted to talk to us and took us over the computer upgrade counter. We argued for about another 15mins and he said that Fry's would never sell it for 4.99 and that the ad says "14.99 - 10rebate." Being the cocky person he was, he said if we can prove someone paid $4.99 at a Fry's today w/o any rebates, that he'd give it to us since he figured no one got it for that price. We left the store around 9:30pm.

Was it Claudia Dodier you talked to? That gal was a pain in the b*tt when I dealt with her before. Try asking for Bob Rachman. He's the assistant store manager there. He helped me sort things out once. Pretty nice guy. If they don't do the things they're supposed to do, just complain to the BBB and you'll get your products. Lookup BBB of Southern California. Fry's is listed with them.

Frys in anaheim had the reader for $14.99 and didnt offer me a rebate. BOGUS! I wish i had hosting space, id like to get ahold of that rebate, or even a copy of someones receipt from a local store (industry or fountain valley) who got it for $4.99. Ive been looking for one of these for a while, $15 is a decent deal, but only if you have a mobo to support it (i have a soyo).

Lets get that rebate and receipts posted here, anyone have hosted space available, it would be appreciated.

I'm amazed that you would spend an hour and a half arguing over 10 bucks. Pick your battles man...

I bought one tonight at the Fremont Fry's:

$14.99 - $10 rebate = $4.99.

BUT, as an earlier post stated, the thing connects to your motherboard via USB connectors on the motherboard - make sure you have a motherboard that has these connectors!

Unfortunately, mine doesn't, so I'll be returning this tomorrow.

BTW, anyone purchase the WD 160GB ($189 - $70MIR = $119)? It's an OEM drive, but the MIR states that it only requires the receipt and serial # of drive. Anyone have any info on this drive? The model # is WD1600BB-00DAA0

Thanks.

Just complain through BBB. Although that Maxwell guy just laughed on the idea, IMHO the guys in corporate don't really like getting complaints registered with BBB. They used to have an if-you-dont-like-our-business-practice-then-go-elsewhere-attitude, but I guess they've changed, especially since I managed to get them to honor a price mistake they had two months ago after doing a complaint with SoCal BBB.

I decided to go and get this and Holy Sh*t it's a Pioneer DVR-105!!!!!! In other words, it's 4x DVD-R/2x DVR-W! For $169 after rebate, I'd consider this a HOT deal!

Oh, and don't let the "Best Cost" box throw you off, I'd be willing to bet that it's Cendyne using a different name. It has the same box design and blue "Quality Approved" sticker that Cendyne uses.

Still, that doesn't matter because there's a 4x Pioneer DVD-R drive inside!

(I'll have to say that YMMV though, because I only bought one...maybe I got lucky? Anyway, I did examine all of the boxes and all of the serial numbers start with BLDL so I'd imagine that they all have the same drives inside. This was at City of Industry Fry's and they still had like 5 left at 1:45pm).

There is no way to tell from the box that it is a Pioneer. But the actual unit has Pioneer Electronics written on it. And of course the model number also indicates that it is a Pioneer.
