Fscking speed traps

So I was driving in an area that I'm not entirely familiar with and out of the blue I get pulled over by an officer. I asked him what I did and he said I was going 30 in a 20 zone. OH BOO FSCKING HOO. I apologized and he still goes and gives me a $100 fine. 10mph is fscking barely speeding and it was so obvious it was a speed trap because about 10 feet in front of me, there is a sign that says 'Speed Limit: 30 MPH.' SO WTF? I would've argued and bitched but god knows that wouldn't have helped. omg such bs. I don't even care about paying the fine, I just don't want to see it on my insurance.

and yes a weak rant, I know.

I feel for you, I got a ticket last year for almost the same situation, i was going 35mph in a 25 zone (I didn't see the speed sign because I have never been in that area before)...

If you're going to speed, be prepared to accept the consequences.

That being said, I'd consult ticketassassin.com. Also, try to get them to allow you to take a defensive driving course, which prevents the infraction from showing up on your record as long as you stay out of trouble for ~6months I believe.

People will tell you "you sped, you got caught, you deserve to pay" but not me, I hate speed traps and damn asshole cops trying to make their monthly quota.

If you'd never drive your car faster than 5mph you wouldn't have this problem, would you?

Food for thought.

Around here there are minimal speed limits on the highways, so you will get ticketed too

$100 is a bit much, but if you were speeding, then thats how it is.

I love my radar detector <3

Speed traps are different than just getting pulled over for speeding. IMO, nit-picking about speed limits is not the point.

It's all about intent. If the intent is to stop people from speeding in a certain area because it's dangerous or because there are repeat violators, then fine. Usually, especially in small towns, it's done to generate revenue at places where speed limits drop quickly. That's wrong IMHO.

I'd love to see them try to enforce the minimum during rush hour.

You thought I was fibbing about the 5mph thing? :Q

Radar detector wouldn't help you around here, the cops can't use radar off the highways.

Same thing happened to me. Speed went from 35 on most of the street to 25 for about 300 feet and then back up to 30 at the next intersection. I was going 38 and boom got a $90 ticket from a cop that wasn't even sitting still.

There's a known speed trap that is in a park I travel through often. The speed limit is 35, but it's normal to see people fly through the park doing at least 60-65. That's one of the speed traps I can appreciate.

However, I don't totally disagree with using it as a revenue generator in some cases. If people are going to be stupid enough to speed in areas that are known to have speed traps, then tough luck.

That's right - there's only one foot on the gas pedal at a time. If you can't control yours, then don't get behind the wheel.

If the speed zone changed to 30 mph only 10 ft in front of you I would fight it in court. Chances are they will drop it, because it does sound pretty darn trivial. Just write up a nice letter and see what happens (thats unless you want to appear in person).

Because new-to-you areas often hide their posted speed limit signs?

The fine might sound like a bit much... but around here, the fine depends on where the infraction took place.

I got a ticket once for 5 over in a 35 zone...fine was $100

I got another ticket once for 15 over in a 65 zone (freeway)...fine was $50

The place I got caught at this summer only had the 25mph sign posted on the OTHER side of the street. I didn't have time to go to court so I just ate the $90.

Chances are he was at least 10 over for the entire 20 mph zone. People speed down my residential street all the time. I'd love to see them get ticketed. I have no sympathy for 10 over in a 20 zone because it's usually not safe. School zones or residential...penalties should be extreme for speeding in those areas.

speed traps can be a result of people in the area complaining also. I once blew a stop sign (which I never do) because I never saw it. It was hidden behind a tree with full leaves and it was nighttime, with no white line on the road to mark it. I wonder why people say that sign gets blown all the time. Well the cop stops me and says they understand but they still have to give the ticket because "something needs to be done" as the residents were complaining. Well maybe they can cut the fvcking tree down to size...

QFT. The neighborhood next to mine back in my hometown turned their main street into a one way street, basically. They closed off the cut through to a road connecting our divisions and now you have to take like a 4 minute detour to get around the blockage. For the longest time they had these "keep kids alive, drive 25" signs in their yards. More like "keep kids alive, teach them not to run out in the fscking street without looking". Assholes. I still just go around the cut through because rarely is a cop ever sitting there and I love to fvck with those people. Such snobby douchebags live over there.
