FTP logon fails through router

I run a ftp server through a netgear 314 router.

People who have routers also have problems logging on to my server regardless whether passive is checked or not. The connection times out.

I also have problems connecting to servers that are hardware firewalled.

My correct ports are forewarded so that most people can connect but there are a number that are not able.

I am using port 27015 and a range of ports are open for passive access.

Does anyone know of a workaround for this problem.

I use to have the RT314 (u do have this right?). Im using a Linksys Befsx41 now. When I had the 314 what I did was open a few ports for my FTP server, opened one for FTP ( port 21) and opened a range port for passive mode (ex. 123-128).

If I remember correctly FTP uses port 21 and 20 but not sure if they are UDP or TCP. Might be worth a look.

FTP uses 21, but he stated he is running the server in passive mode.

i think you need to configure you ftp server to do a passive transfer.
You'll need to transfer the range of ports you use in the router.

then tell your clients to enable passive transfer when they try to connect to your server.
