Canada, here I come.

Sorry to hear that.

Well I think you'd probably be excluded anyway since you're gay, but you just lost my respect.

That's really pathetic.

you don't have any sense of duty to country?

Not to get into such a discussion, but no one should have any sense of duty to any country or flag, but only to the world.

All soldiers and citizens should feel a sense of duty to the world, as a citizen of the world, not a citizen of a government (which is only a temporary institution srt up to enforce laws), defending freedom around the world.

Ben Franklin said it best, "Where freedom is, there is my home."

Thomas Paine also, "The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion."

I have great respect for those who serve in the name of all the world and all mankind, not a silly flag or a bunch of crooked politicians (which is all a government is made of).

this is the type of thinking that will destroy the united states

good luck with your "one country" world, i want no part of it

The modern day United States I would not miss. Bring back Washington's, Paine's, Franklin's, Lincoln's United States. The United States built on freedom was ruined by power hungry politicians and selfish voters. It's a socialist country now. No different from any EU country and it's only getting worse.

You wanna bring back the slave trade, too?

No. The US has never been perfect in practice, but we were once in principal. Practice begins in princpal and we've lost our principals of freedom.

Blah blah blah. Whine all you want.

First of all, I doubt I would be asked. I would be told.
Second, it depends on the war. If it's something I believed in, and felt strongly about, well then I guess the situation would change.
Third, I am not going to kill anyone. I'm just not a killer. I don't like guns, explosives, or blood.

Whine all you want about how I am a horrible person and about shipping me off somewhere. I don't mind.

Edit: Oh I doubt I could get out of mandatory service by being gay.

It's a socialist country now, progressive taxes, a regulatory agency for everything under the sun, wars, the patriot act. No different from any EU country and it's only getting worse.

I have a feeling you don't know much about freedom.

yeah, buddy of mine has dual citizenship with Italy. His service papers came but he was able to fight it since both his knees have been blown out several times (those crazy I-Ties and their addiction to soccer). Last I'd heard they were still trying to make him do desk duty or some crap.

He could... don't ask, don't tell and all that... but if he wants to avoid serving his country (which he does), he doesn't have to go to Canada to do it.

We're not "whining," we're telling you. Refusing to server your country when it needs you is pretty weak. You think all the people who fought in WW II were natural born killers? That is why they are called the Greatest Generation and you are not fit to lick their boots.

We live in an imperfect world. I still think that we can still make it. Despite (what you say) the principles that we've lost... That's why we have citizens, right? To affect change by using their power to vote?

Go farther, like, the UK just as Bill Clinton did.

OP, I don't know how tough it will be to leave your life to enlist, but think about the positive things that you can learn while being enlisted... It's only a short stint, right? Anyway, best of luck with that.

WWII was a completely different war that the war I am speaking of. This is not WWII.
And although you may be right, I will be the judge of what I am fit and not fit to do. Thank you.

I think Zysoclaplem's opinion is based on the most recent Iraq war, not on a military situation that was truly a danger to the US.

I think even most so called "America haters" would serve their country if they truly believed they and their country's people's lives were being threatened. I'm not an "America hater", but I would serve to protect others if I believe they were being threatened, but I'm no one's war zombie who will fight for someone's political ambitions or monetary gain, which is the opinion Zysoclaplem was going for.

I think Zysoclaplem was not correctly understood.

Zysoclaplem, tell me to STFU if I'm wrong.

I have 20/500 vision (and weigh less than what is minimally required), so even if a draft occurred, I would probably not be enlisted.

Couldn't you fake the eye exam? "Z...F...W...MONKEY...CAT...GORILLA...JOHN TESH...."

I had 20/550 vision in one eye and 20/600 in the other when I enlisted. They have these devices called eyeglasses that are used to improve your vision to 20/20. OH, and don't worry about the weight issue, 8 or 10 weeks of Basic training will have you up to standard in no time.
