And the last time In Tel tried this was the (abandonware) skulltrail platform.

The best thing about skulltrail was that its failure in the markets at least resulted in us no longer having to listen to Francois singing his own praises

I don't know what the program cost Intel, but I found the end result to be priceless

I'm sorry, I must have missed the part where Intel abandoned their Skulltrail users. Can you show where Intel promised an upgrade path and then canceled it please?

Was the second one an intentional double negative? Im guessing not, but hey one never knows. You marketing types are crafty.

Can you give us an indication of how likely desktop BD is to be released on or about September 19?

No, just a typo. Benchmarks that did not come from AMD will not be representative.

No to your second question, I don't comment on client products and really don't comment on dates.

Afraid of that - just moved into a 900 series board that will not unlock the cores on my X2. Looks like I made the move a bit early.

Had that issue on my Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, latest F4 bios allowed me to unlock but also added a bit of flakiness to onboard sound and USB.

I like this board (ASUS Sabertooth 990FX) , not a big fan of the UEFI bios though. Maybe I'm just too familiar with the Award bios.

Keep on top of BIOS updates and you may get lucky. Agree with you on the graphical interface stuff, not a big deal but for me it's always about what options were available not how they were presented. Hopefully it won't take tons of clicking to get to all the settings I want when I have to deal with my first UEFI graphical interface.

Sabertooth is supposedly getting a bios update to help with unlocking, but it might not matter in a couple weeks anyway.

John, I must admit that I respect your dedication. You're like the boxer who is getting clocked round after round but keeps on coming back for more... I really hope that you guys get the bugs worked out soon, I'd like to be able to consider a BD-based pc by BF this year.

Ditto on the respect. Putting up with all the flying manure in all the forums you frequent must take a toll... It's certainly much more than I could take. So keep up the good work, Mr. Fruehe!

Speaking of all of the crap flying, this should answer some of it:

http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/1107646-bulldozer-pre-launch-faq.html

You had me at:
To get actual performance, you need:

Final production silicon
Final processor microcode
Final system BIOS
Final OS optimizaitons
Final drivers
An app compiled with the latest flags
A person who understands the app and configures the test properly

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

If you want to post a similar thread here, locked and what not, all you need do is ask.

Barring that, thank you for contributing the link, it adds value to the community without question.

If you want to copy that thread and post it here (so people don't shoot off to another site) I am fine with that.

That post was my rant after a long week and a mexican martini at trudy's. Feel free to plagerize, as long as you don't change the text, have at it.

A phenomenal post that IMHO warrants a sticky over here!

I realize that this is directed toward enthusiasts and not regular consumers, but I don't think that the snappy retorts ("why don't you buy a single-core processor then?") etc. give off a very professional attitude. And that's one of the major problems of AMD PR in my honest opinion.

The comic that was released some time ago, and which actually was an official piece of PR, is in the same vein.

LOL, yeah I'm sure he's really worried about how professional his personal, non-company, opinion is communicated or received:
While I work for AMD, my posts are my own opinions.
Are you gonna critique his grammar and spelling too? Maybe his font choice and ratio of bold to regular type text is non-professional as well?

Failing to see the forest for the trees here.

AMD doesn't have any real PR aimed at informing the masses that their processors are just as reliable as Intel so all the guys who say "well I never had a problem with Intel" continue saying that and buying Intel to their grave.

It's an easy thing to write...but I don't buy it.

We are talking PR here...the profession of smooth words.

That's some rather smooth talk there, Lonbjerg :hmm:

Well, when I read his post at overclock.net it dosn't look like a post from a private individual, but like he is doing his job...AMD PR.

That you then try to advocate he is not doing AMD PR...just boogles my mind.

I call it like I see it...and I see PR.
