I was assuming any price we talked about here would be retail, not including tax.

It is retail. GTX 780 would be cheaper too, without tax. And its not listed without tax

The Radeon R9 290X would be available next week for a price of around $649.99 US (549.99 Excluding Tax via Fudzilla)and is currently available with the Battlefield 4 bundle package that retails at Newegg for a price of $729.99.

Well at least he has moved down closer to reality. Now the exaggerated prices are based on locations where you pay sales tax. If it makes you feel better, the 290X will cost $620.50 tax included in Canada.

There are 2 places in europe from what I have seen. So maybe you could list some of the rest?

I mean, with that devotion to a company you must sure know some. Specially when they are "everywhere".

Now I'm devoted to AMD? Even though I have an intel system and I'm playing on a GTX560? I guess you missed the posts where I criticized AMD as well.

If that is the case then I refuse to engage you an further. You can go ahead and play damage control for the company you are devoted to.

Good day sir.

Those prices you list for the 290X with or without tax makes no sense.

In what country would there be exactly 100$ tax on a 549$ card to then retail for 649$?

You need source critisism.

To add to that, I get 7500 GPU score with my 7950s at 1100/1500.

3DMark favors AMD, 3DMark11 favors Nvidia.

Games go both ways, but with BF4 I think you'll have to wait for Mantle before you decide.

Edit: You have an x6 if I recall correctly, so you'll want to be careful to look for performance gains from rendering and not from cpu bottlenecks.

Thanks for the info. I am running a 3930k and I would expect the FPS in BF4 to be limited by this CPU substantially, so faster GPUs may only do so much. Regarding mantle, yes I will certainly wait to see how that plays out. Going to windows 8 should help with CPU performance from what I've gathered.

You are wrong about this too. $649 is the BEFORE tax cost of a typical 780 today. Perhaps there will be a price cut, but as of today it's $649. (There is a Zotac board for $624 currently on Newegg)

If they're smart they price it below the 780 so they won't look the fool when NVIDIA responds with a price cut on the 780 after which AMD might feel pressured to reduce the price as well. Priced at 549 like the 7970 were at launch and I can see these flying off the shelves everywhere if performance is anything like the leaked benches suggest.

Stick with what you know man. Nobody pays 100$ tax in the states on a 550$ purchase, most of us (in most states) don't pay any tax on online purchases. So if it's 549.99$ USD that's what most people will pay - 549.99$ and not a cent more. GTX 780' MSRP is 649.99 for most reference models without tax.

What are you doing, seriously, stating the GTX 780 is cheaper without tax has to be the most FUD statement ever.

Based on what? The 550-600 7970 did poorly, is AMD assuming the price hike shock is over now and hiking it further will be fine?

Personally I think when we're discussing prices companies can get away with, it's Apples and Oranges when it comes to Intel/AMD and Nvidia/AMD.

If it performs as well as it seems, AMD should have no problem charging between $500-600. It will be up to Nvidia to start a price war.

7970 was priced close to what the GTX 580 was retailing for at the time, it's just some on the internet (just going to exclude the delusional attack on AMD posts that were made at the time by some of the internet crowd) were comparing in-brand pricing and hoping for it to be closer to 6950/6970 and thus had some sticker shock.
