Well, duh... Hybrids work best in city driving, where the stop and go driving gives the regenerative braking a chance to charge the batteries and run the electric motor. Taking a road trip with mostly highway driving is kinda silly, since the hybrid will be running off the gasoline motor all of the time.

According to those rates, the diesel fuel costs almost 6% more per gallon. But, diesel fuel has 18% more energy per gallon than a gallon of gasoline. Diesel fuel FTW.

A few years back I talked my ex (then current) girlfriend into buying a VW TDI Jetta. She really loved it then, and I sure as hell bet she loves it even moreso now with cost of fuel plus her one hour one-way commute.

I would love to get one myself, however I would like it in that larger car of theirs, can't remember the name of the model - the one a size up from the Jetta. I know they sell them in Europe, but not sure if they are here in the States yet.

too bad they dont sell polos here. VW Polo with 120hp TDI and 6speed is probably pretty snappy, and better mileage than a jetta cause its smaller.

In Texas, it was about 20 cents cheaper until Katrina hit. Then it went way up.
