Not hot for me! My Best Buy has DVD-/+R. But only +R is made in Japan. The -R is made in Taiwan! Last week's deal is better, at least some of the -R are made in Japan.

This deal is YMMV for sure

So does anyone have any *evidence* that TY DVDs are any good? I usually get Verbatim, as those have been tested to be high quality and durable. I know that TY CDRs are good, but how do we know that TY isn't just trading off their good name to make sales? Anyone have any good reviews?

(BTW, I already got two. )

That's actually a very good question. I just assumed that all the praise everyone was giving it was warranted. But after looking at the reviews at VideoHelp for the TYG02 media, I have to say I'm less than encouraged.

TY T02's burn up to 16.1X on my Pioneer 108 in very nice step ups, very low error scans even before I updated to 1.14 FW. AT didnt even use them in their review.
They would only go to 12X on my POS Plextor 716's with horrendous error graphs (FW1.01) TLA 0000
However they would burn 16X if in Nero under the dvdplayer icon flyout you unchecked rec reg and auto set. But still with high error charts - into the 500's near end. It feels very strange to be setting burner protocols in my Nero Software. (Pioneer doesnt have these options)
So the Toyo's are as good as your burner - thats what counts, so these are what I use.. If theres any prob, I know its the recorder.
Anyway, thats my take after making hours and hours of scans with these two burners.

THESE JAPAN FUJI 8X +R ARE T02 not G02!!!! Be careful with those letters people.

Because of all these recent deals on DVD medias, I've gotten about 400 discs so far from BestBuy, Staples, and CrapUSA.

All the 8X -R ones from Staples are TTY02 which only burn at 4X on my BTC 1008IM drive. The 8X +Rs from staples are CMC E01 which will burn at 8X on my drive.

4X TDK -Rs from CrapUSA are TTY01 (TDK brand) while the 4X +Rs from CrapUSA are Ricohs.

I still have rainchecks for 5 more 25-pack 8x TDK -Rs but don't think I'll get them. I already have too much blank media.

Overall, I think these Fujis make the best deal. They are made in Japan, are 8X, and you can use 10% coupon at WorstBuy.

Also, today is the day I realized why ppl call BestBuy "WorstBuy". Customer service is the worst I've seen anywhere, even worse than CrapUSA!

I found both + & - at my local Best Buy in Orland Park, IL.
The + are authentic TY and are "made in Japan" with the "GT" serial number around the hub.
The - were available in both "Made in Japan" & "Made in Taiwan".
I got the first and are suppose to be TY with the "GG" serial number around the hub as described here...
Link

I had previously purchased (2) 25pk spools of each of the TDK + & - discs from last weeks sale for the same price. So, after finding out they were CMC rebadged discs, I promptly exchanged them.

This is my first attempt at recording DVD's.
I have a Mad Dog DVD writer (suppose to be a rebadged NEC that writes 16X + & - ) and was wondering what is the best software to make backup of my DVD discs??

TIA,

Jesse

A Few questions for those who know...

My den's dvd player (audiovox) doesn't seem to like the generic white label media I bought from supermediastore.com (princo) it skips like HELL, however that same disc plays fine in my livingrooms toshiba and in my pc's dvdrom drive.

After reading thru this thread I am a bit confused as to what to look for if I go buy some of these fujis at best buy what should I look for in terms of better vs worse makers (clear case vs white case) look for JAPAN on disc or outter packaging etc etc?

I am somewhat new to making dvd-rs but have had no real problems except for the generic white labeled discs I have made skip in one of my players (yet gold prodiscs made by OPTODISK) dont skip in it until it gets to the last 20 mins of a 2 hour movie, but again these discs work fine in pc and other dvd player so I dont think it is the burn itself moreso a dvd player/media compatability issue).

I just want to buy what hopefully will be the better quality of fuji's if my store has them, basically looking to find a DVD-R that plays well in all my players.

I use prassi and nero and sometimes dvd shrink btw,

Lastly my burner is a Cendyne (Pioneer DVD-105 FW1.21), will that work with these fujis?

Bill

Just picked up two packs and used two 10% off coupons. Got them for $18 each.

Oh BTW, the San Diego store in Mission Valley has 6-8 packs left, all of them are the TYs.

Where are you people getting these 10% off coupons from? I saw something about 10% on a piece of paper near the register, but that looked like a promotion for some sort of online music-download service, it definately wasn't a general merchandise coupon.

Damn. I just opened up my spindle of Fuji 8x DVD-Rs, and guess what - they're damaged! The top 10-odd discs have a sort of speckled scoring on the burning surface, the top ones all around the outer edge, the ones further in only more along one side, looks like compression damage during shipping. Not good. Unsure of who is at fault for that, Fuji or BB, but I'm taking mine back for an exchange, hopefully they have some more MIJ media left. Very disappointing.
