It appears that both Fuji and TDK (and Verbatim) use both Taiwan non-Taiwan (Singapore / MCC) made discs. The Japanese and Singapore discs are better according to general consensus. Be sure to check before you buy - if you care about such things, that is.

Last night I bought the Fuji discs from Best Buy and the TDK ones from Target - after taxes, the former costed me $1.23/disk (since I had a $20 gift card from Best Buy), while the latter costed me $1.59/disk. I have also ordered the Memorex combo-pack from Circuit City, which should be here soon.

Only the TDK discs are certified to be 4x - the Fuji ones don't have any speed ratings printed either on the package or on the discs themselves, although the Best Buy web-site lists them as being 2.4x. I'll try burning a few of these in the next few days, and will post the results after that.

Looks like almost all the retail 4X +R media has the RICOH ID which can be somewhat misleading. From what I have read elsewhere these are all made by Ritek. They are still very good quality discs. The recent Memorex and Verbatim 4X +R discs have had a RICOH ID also.

On an additional note, with the prices of DVD burners falling like they have been, you could expect the sales of blank media to increase proportionally to the increase of the sale of DVD hardware. So I expect to see 4X +R media be around $1 on sale soon. So there doesn't seem to be any real reason to stock up. There seem to be more and more deals on DVD media now also. And the B & M's seem to have better deals than the online sellers, at least on quality 4X media.
