Was this online, phone or B&M?

I got a PM from outpost at a B&M once but it seems weird that they will PM to any internet store. I guess I have been too chicken to try

Thanks

I tried both ways, when I called for an online order they had to verify that buydig was an authirized fuji dealer. So I went to my local store and just showed them the printout.

This is a great camera and now has a great price.

But can you please help out a little bit with the $50 off $250(is that it?)

went to the local compusa the other day and this camera seems a lil bulky, its shaped like a small box, and seem to have a fat lense, but then again its probably my preference for smaller cameras.

I am not sure if they are an autherized dealer I just went to staples and bought it there, the coupon is the 8th item if you search for "staples coupons" in Google.

Like all Fuji Finepix digicams this uses SM (SmartMedia) not SD (Secure Digital or whatever it stands for).

err thats what i meant

I thought so but I wanted to clarify it for lurkers who were wondering about this digicam.

Personally I prefer the smaller 2600 but Fuji makes great all around digicams, you can't go wrong.

I own this camera and it's great, except for one little detail. you can NOT see ANYTHING in the lcd(or EVF) at night. It's basically just black. The pictures will come out fine if you trust the camera to take a good pic, but you'd better practice learning where you're pointing because you won't see ANYTHING in the lcd.

Here's a side-by-side comparison of the Canon A40 vs Fuji 2800.

It's pretty close, the Fuji 2800 offers 6x optical zoom but the Canon A40 accepts CompactFlash (which is better than the Fuji's SmartMedia), has more ISO settings, a few more manual settings, I prefer it's slightly smaller design, you get FREE 64MB CF from OfficeMax and no pricematching hassles gets you a nice $249 price.

Before making your decision read as many reviews as you can and I highly recommend visiting your local camera dealer to check these out in person and ask them questions BEFORE buying it online, trust me. You want to see how the camera operates, ask questions about it's specs and feel it in your hands before you spend close to $300 on a new digital camera.

Sage advice from a veteran in the field, it would seem

I've got an A40, and I've been very impressed with it's pic quality - it takes much better pics than my APS camera ever did! One thing I like about the A40 is the 3-spot auto focus - it actually shows you what the camera is focusing on. It's super-handy because I can be sure that the camera is focusing on what I want it to (and if not, I can release focus-lock, shift position & try again).

Slightly OT: Are there any programs that let you do a mass resizing of images in a directory? I've been taking all my pics at 1600x1200, but I figure once I download them onto my comp, there's no need to keep them that size if I don't plan on printing hard copies later. So I'd like to resize them to 1024x768 to save room. Any programs that will do a mass operation? Thanks!

This is a great camera for the point-and-shoot crowd. I had this cam for about 2 months. Took it on vacation with me in Hawaii for a reunion. Takes excellent pics. I got just about 140 pics in the highest setting on a 128mb SM card. Battery life is great. Can't say enough about the zoom.

I only got rid of it because I decided to graduate to something with multiple manual settings, and more MP's. Which I've got in my Sony DSC-F505V.

Excellent camera, and the zoom is worth it!!!!

It is almost impossible to find a camera in the 2.1MP range that has a 6x opti zoom. I love this camera. As stated above , it is a little bulky to use at first, but you get over that real quick. As also stated above, the electronic view finder(where you put your eye up to) is about worthless in a darker surrounding. I cannot figure out why Fuji would put this gimmick on this camera. It sucks, plain and simple. The finepix 2600 has a regular eyepiece and it works fine. Other than this fairly minor complaint I would seriously consider purchasing this camera. Ive had it for three months since my daughter was born and have taken about 150-180 pics at the highest resolution and almost always indoors using the flash on a single battery charge. I also use the big screen for viewing and reviewing my pics which is notorious for eating up batteries. But this camera doesnt seem to use the batteries nearly as fast as some other cameras Ive tried. Pictures are nice and sharp. Very good price for it.

Peace

A great camera except for that electronic viewfinder. Why oh why Fuji? Maybe that's part of why it's been discontinued.

Prolly more so with the annoucement of the 3800 using the new xD card storage.

Fuji 3800

The 3800 looks waaaaay . 3mp, 6x zoom still there, new xD card storage, and A THREADED LENS!!! Will just have to wait and see if they improved the EVF in low light situations. If they do, the F505V will be up on the block once that cam is available.

AFAIK, most, if not all of the large zoom cameras (6x or higher) use EVF instead of optical viewfinder, even the really expensive ones, such as CoolPix 5700.
