I hate to ask, but I can't find a printable 10 off 30 coupon, I can only find a scan of one and it says you need the originol, will it work? I found it at hot-deals.org

<< Ian:

Just an FYI. A couple of the 16X spindle packs that I bought a few months ago during the CompUSSR and OMax sales had 16X stickers over a 12X rating. So now we're seeing 24X stickers over the 16X's. At least they're consistent.

I know what you mean.. at the same time I can't write at 20x to these things with my Yammie or Ricoh 20x drives without turning off the JustSpeed/SafeBurn stuff.

Staples Coupons - here's what I wrote elsewhere:

I go to techbargains and cut 'n paste the appropriate Staples coupon section into a Word doc which I print out and take to my Staples. Most Staples cashiers want to get the manager unless you hand them what looks to be official coupon codes, and this works fine. Just handing them a piece of paper with a number on it will often mean that they are going to fetch the manager, and who has time for that? I just circle the code I want, and hand it to them and it always works without a fuss. Don't print out the whole techbargains page, just the Staples coupon code area.

This is the Hot coupons column on the right, and will have a list of oh, maybe 15 coupons like this:

[These two listed below as an example are a facsimile of coupon codes, not actual ones]

Staples
$25 off $100 Order Code xyz Expires Jul 14

Staples
$10 off $30 Order Code 123 Expires Jul 30

I just picked up a spindle at the Staples in Levittown NY. Had to ask for the rebate.
There were a few more left.

How do you know that the FujiFilms are made in Taiyo Yuden? Is there a program that you can run to find out where the CDR are made from?

Nittany,

There is a program called cdr identifier that reads the ATIP on the disk and reports the make and manufacturer. Here is the site CDr identifier. Also, do you happen to go to Penn State?

Any ideas how these TYs compare to the Kodak Ultima Gold or Gold/Silver (longevity-wise)?

CD-R technology is too new for there to be real-world aging stats. All tests done have been simulated and in those, I've never heard of any discs that outperformed Kodak Ultima Gold. But as Kodak no longer makes those discs, it hardly matters anymore. Besides Kodak Golds, the discs that have done the best on simulated aging have been any quality disc with a good top layer like Taiyo Yuden, Ricoh and a few others. The cheapo generic discs and anything with a shiny top have done poorly. But if you have data that you absolutely will need to have intact a few years from now, CD-R certainly isn't the place to put it.

Not having the appropriate rebate for a product that is advertised in the weekly specials is inexcusable. I picked up the Fuji CD-R's from one of the New York City Staples and asked for a rebate form. They handed me a copy of a rebate form and said it was OK to use it. I came back to the office and Parn's posting of the rebate form. Guess what. They gave me the rebate for the wrong CD's.

I went back over to the store to ask for the proper rebate and gave them a copy of Parn's rebate form. Lo and behold the truth came out. Apparently, the store did not have the rebate form for the Fuji's. This lady had knowingly gave me the wrong rebate form so that I would go away satisfied. She mentioned that if I had complained and not brought a copy of the correct rebate form, the store would have credited me $5. Damn! Now she was going to use Parn's form to make copies for all future customers even though I had mentioned that the form requires the original form and not photocopies.

Sorry for being so longwinded. Bottom line: Staple Is Sucks

I start my adventure at University Park in less than 2 weeks!

Also I have been using Kodak Ultima Gold which appear to be silver now. I have had good results with these.

I can't seem to find the 10 off 30 as well off either techbargains or fatwallet. Has it expired already?

I just got home with 3-Spindles, I ain't gonna bother with the rebates though (I already submitted rebates for the OTHER 4-spindles I bought a couple months ago!)

Anyway, I took a couple of shots so everyone can see that these are INDEED 24x certified! And also a shot of the front and back of the CDR (if anyone is interested in that)...

Mainshot; you see the '24x' rating
The CDRs

Enjoy.

My theory is that Staples attempted to do a regional sale, but their distribution was totally fouled up. They sent plenty of CDR's to parts of the country where they weren't advertised and not enough to those locations where they were advertised.

No Sunday ads here. My local Staples had no clue that there was a sale on these, yet they had a load of them. They seemed surprised when they scanned for $14.94. Also, the store did not have the MIR forms.

I went to the White Plains / Elmsford, NY Staples today. They have a ton of these FujiFilm CD-R spindles left. Just make sure to ask the Customer Service people for the rebates because the display ones ran out. (or it could be a clever marketing scheme ;-()

Enjoy.

I found the Fuji CDR's at the Staples on 48th and 5th Ave in NYC. There were still plenty left around 2 in the afternoon. They had just received some stock on Wednesday morning. Be careful, they put the Fuji's up front by the cash registers not in the regular CDR section.

For Long Islanders, I found a whole bunch in the Commack Store (Jericho Tpke and Larkfield). They even had the original rebate forms. Whoopee!
