I second that. I'd really have to agree with your statement. I've used many brands and when it all comes down, I'd really have to say I've never had a CDR go bad, unreadable, or burn a coaster cause of it's brand. Now there may be CDRs with no protective coating which would ruin your data. But I've been using Imations and TDKs (Taiwan) for quite a while and all my disks are still in perfect shape. Well maybe its for one that I keep them in CaseLogics. But really, you'd have to really abuse them or lay them out in sunlight to get problems most complain about...

<< What are you guys doing to these cdr's to make them die after 6 months? I have cdr's I burned 5 YEARS ago on some of the crappiest media available at the time (memorex and kao) that still work fine! And that media I used really blows, hold it up to a light and you can see right through it. But if you could get them for 5 or 6 bucks a disc you were pretty happy since verbatim's were 10 bucks a shot.

I'm all for high quality media (verbatim's are my fav) for special stuff or car audio because they resist scratches a bit better... but discs that just die after 6 months? Come on.

Are you guys leaving them on the sidewalk or what? I've got music I burned years ago that I leave in my car (not in direct sunlight) during Dallas summers and it still is perfectly fine.

Unless someone is literally using these for a beer coaster or works in a steel mill I don't get it.

These Fuji 50 pack are also rated at 24x and goes on sale at staples for 9.99. Regular price 14.99 with a 5.00 rebate. These are made in japan so they might be Taiyo Yuden CDRs. Damn good price if they are.

The sale at Staples starts Sunday June 10th (today) and runs for a week. I've never seen a Fuji made in Japan spindle that wasn't Taiyo Yuden, so that's a great price for great discs. Heck, even without the extra $5 rebate tacked-on $14.99 is a really nice price.

GagHalfrunt, is that price only valid at Staples B&M? I couldn't find any Fuji CDR's on staples.com.

You'll have to go to the store, they're not on the site. I finally got them after I went to the 3rd Staples which had a pile, while the other 2 were sold out.

Originally when the CD-R came out, there was no such thing as a 24X burner, thus they could never test it. But not that the new faster drives are out, they have tested the CD-R to work at a speed of 24X.

at compusa i got 100 cdrs 74 min for $10...it was $20 with a $10 rebate Text

The quality of the Fuji's is much better then the crapUSA brand CDRs
Just a little scratch will start to peel the coating off on top. It's
not good for archiving your data, only burning and giving away to others.

<< Are these stuff any good? >>

Of course. These are Taiyo Yudens, made in Japan. It's much better than most of the Taiwan based.

Yoot, that's the first thing I checked and I wasn't able to find the disks on the Staples.com website, so it appears to be B&M only.

Note - many B&M stores do not have any of these CDR's. All our local Staples stores had a sign on their shelves that the mfg. was unable to ship them any stock of them.

They are offering rainchecks though, and at the price after rebate, so no need to send in the rebate at all.

That's even better. Here in the Northeast it seems like there's a Staples B&M in every town. So without even going out of my way I managed to stop in 3 different stores today. One had the discs in stock and I was able to get post-rebate price rainchecks at the other 2 stores, so a total of 3 spindles for $9.95 each. Hopefully this week I'll be in the area of a few other stores and they won't have them in stock either

The difference between Japanese made CD's and Taiwan made CDR is usually a higher quality dye and better reflective backing. Japan has the strongest standards when it comes to CDR's of any nation. I recently saw a pack of PNY's in a retail store and the top disk had the backing chipped off in a few places, these were brand new too.

Just bought a pack today. Did CDIdentifer on it and it came up with Taiyo Yuden w/ Cyanine Dye. I thought phthalocyanine was better. I guess it doesn't really matter anymore.

Generally speaking, the better quality cdr ... is better. If you can get better quality product at a great price then go for it.

Whether Cyanine or Pthalocyanine it depends on the end product and the quality of manufacturing. Certainly, each has somewhat different properties but for the average consumer it's not really something to worry about if you get decent stuff.
