I have a 6 week old Fujitsu N5010.. it has the most beautiful scree on a laptop anywhere right now..customer service has been very nice to work with

N5010...P4 3.0 Ghz HT 800 mhz / 768 mg ram/60gb 7200 rpm hdd/cdrw/802.11g/floppy

I purchased mine from Portable One..they have 0 dead pixel policy for no charge...very nice to work with..they are a fujitsu authorized reseller...they upgraded the unit to 768 mg ram from 512 and the 7200 rpm hdd...

This is a very nice laptop...it is a desktop replacement....heavy at 10 lb....it well built

look at this thread for screen pics..not my laptop

I love this laptop and the screen is just amazing....

what do you mean by "non super"? =)

my dad has a m7400 centrino, which I think is very nice... It's not made by fujitsu though, they just buy it from compal and put on their own tag.

I had one several years ago and it was a good lappy. I like their company too.

My S6210 shipped today, and I will have it on Thursday. It has the new CrystalView LCD that is supposed to be really bright and clear. I will post back when I receive it.

I have an S6120D and I like it a lot. It's a very solid machine. I've never had a problem with it, so I wouldn't know how fujitsu support is.

I am also interested in a Fujitsu notebook and am presently looking at the P-1032. I haven't found much help anywhere else online and was wondering what people here might think.

I will mostly be writing, emailing, surfing and perhaps playing some older games (e.g. Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, Fallout 1 and 2, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale 1, maybe 2). The P-1032 features a smaller screen than what seems to be the usual 10", and the keyboard, I heard somewhere, is somewhat rough to use (mostly the shift keys as they are rather tiny). Can anyone address these concerns? I haven't been able to look at or experiment with one in person as I am buying most likely on eBay.

Also, is the 800 MHz Crusoe processor a capable chip? i.e. can it honestly handle WinXP without much trouble?

I am looking to spend between $350 and $800 or so on a smallish Fujitsu (which are readily available at these prices on eBay) and would deeply appreciate any feedback people here might have.

I have owned a Fujitsu P2010 (I think) series laptop that came with the 800Mhz Crusoe and currently own a P5010D with a 900Mhz Pentium M. The P2010 ran WinXP but it lagged, a lot. It was usable for basic, basic needs but for example it could not play most divx videos at a playable rate. It also skipped frames playing DVDs occasionally. I'm sure the P1000 series has gotten better over the past couple years but moving from the 2000 to the 5000 series was a night and day change.

The PentiumM/855 chipset combo has been pretty unbeatable lately. The new P7000 series is even better, faster, and lighter by half a pound than my laptop. I would strongly recommend staying away from the Crusoe and instead spend a bit more and get the cheapest PentiumM solution you can. The P1000 series also has a touchscreen right? The one time I've seen a P1000 used was by the guy who did my home inspection when I bought my house. That was a perfect use for that laptop and the guy loved it...except that he had to tote around an HP 1200 laserjet in a duffel bag to print out invoices and reports.

Edit: As stated above go to www.leog.net and browse the fujitsu forums there. That is by far the best source on Fujitsu laptops on the net. You will be able to find a lot more first hand experiences there than here.

A very happy owner of a P7010D here. Bought mine from Portable One. They were a pleasure to deal with; very patient in answering all of my many questions before I placed the order.

IMO, I place Fujitsu laptops right behind IBM for quality. Based on the prices, I think Fujitsu's provide a much better value than IBMs, but you can't beat IBM's service. It's a shame Fujitsu doesn't really have any retail presence in the U.S., but I guess that just makes us Fujitsu owners feel special.

As others have mentioned, the leog.net forums are your best bet for finding out more info on Fujitsu notebooks.

Thanks for the input and links. It's been very helpful. I've narrowed it down to a few different machines and have decided against anything with a Crusoe processor (which is too bad, as they are nice-looking machines).

karmasalad or anyone else in the know, does the S7010 have the crystal view screen or is it just limited to the N5010 10lb. beast?

I had a fujitsu laptop back in 1997/96 which I still do but I don't think I should count it if it's in peices. It's a Lifebook 755TX and served me pretty well I guess, but since it was a pentium based system I wasn't able to get much out of it anyways. The Laptop broke in 1998/99 because I some one spilled juice on it so I wasn't able to determine if it were to last after 2-3 yrs. But one time when I used a broken Floppy I put it in the drive and removed it but because the Metal cover on the Floppy was broken, it ripped out a chip from the inside. Called up Fujitsu and since the laptop was still under warranty, they sent me another FDD promptly and for free! I'm still sketchy to whether if I had the choice back then to choose a laptop, would I have choosen that model or not. Only real complaint is that I got some bad sector errors on the HDD about 6 months before juice was spilled on the machine and then a few years later (6 months ago) when testing the recovered drive (Last time tested was 3 yrs ago) the drive completely died.

I do not believe the S7010 has the CrystalView screen. Did a quick search around and it does not seem to be listed as part of its specs. I think that model was released shortly before CV was rolled out on Fujitsu laptops.

The P7000 series, however, does have the CV screen. It is really quite gorgeous; colors seem more vibrant and sharper.
