Not surprising at all. This is why I won't touch that with a 10 foot pole, and I would not put it past them to push that stuff to 7 as well. Microsoft is basically the Facebook/Google of operating systems now. They want to collect as much as they can on every single one of your moves so they can show targeted ads. They're already testing the waters with that in Explorer. I pretty much saw that coming from Day 1. The start menu comes with ads built in, I'm sure those will eventually change based on your behavior within the OS and they'll start showing ads throughout different parts of the OS. I could even see full screen ads that pop up at random while you're using your computer. "It looks like you're writing a letter! We detected that you're using a fairly outdated keyboard and your letter writing is not optimal. We have a wide selection of keyboards that can ship to your door in less than 2 days, order now!".

It's bad enough that we are constantly being spied on our every online move by various 3-4 letter agencies, Facebook, Google (even if you don't have an account) but it's WAY crossing the line to do it on your own computer. Well, it's not really your computer once you install Windows on it...

Also this whole thing of them trying to push tying your windows login to their servers is scary as hell. I grudgingly put up with that with my phone because I don't have a choice but for that to happen to my computer too? Hell no. Sure you currently have the option of using a local login, but I think at some point they'll remove that. Microsoft basically wants your computer to be like a phone or tablet. A closed system that they control, and you only get to use how they please and they'll track your every move.

I wonder if anyone has tested if you only go to porn sites if they send you porn and penis enlargement ads.

Can't you disable all of this?

You can but every update it just reverts back. It's a constant battle. I would rather not use an OS if I need to have to disable a bunch of crap like this in first place.

Suppose a quick fix is to just block this at the firewall. Can probably figure out MS's IP ranges and block them completely.

So Windows10 is kinda like my phone. When I dl an app from the store and it says this app has access too 'blah, blah, blah, and blah" it's really no different.

Between this and Congress/Trump's behavior on privacy, I'm starting to feel a bit scared for the future.

This is what you get with Windows as a service, for better or worse. Switch to Linux if it bothers you.

Between Windows, iOS, OSX, Amazon, and Google anybody who wants to know anything about you is purchasable.

Windows 10 can go fuck its self into a big black hole.

I use 7 and I never use updates. Have I been hacked or infected? NO! I know how to use a damn computer. You see these ass clowns use updates and yet they are always on all the forums with topics like, " HELP! I think I have a virus." Or the classic, " I've been hacked."

Then the updates themselves cause trouble. Here's a list so far:

I only use an update if it fixes something I need for functionality. And that's very rare.

My damn Comcrap HD box updates every night! Talk about excessive! The way I see it, is the more updates you throw at something, the risk of failure is expedited.

I use pi-hole ad blocking on a rasperby pi I purchased and it works wonderfully as my dns server/ad blocking device.

Who cares? You're constantly leaking all of that data anyway, it doesn't matter what operating system you're using, do you know how often your equipment/system configuration is blasted over the internet every single day? Microsoft have actually declared it and they've provided opt-outs which contrary to popular belief were re-enabled once due to poor planning and expansion of those options.

What are the options? the only operating systems that aren't going to be leaking your data to western authorities are North Korea's and China's custom operating systems, but where do they leak to instead, and did they have the guts to declare it?

I find it difficult to express just how much I don't care about what MS sees. Maybe if I had a camera that they monitored constantly it would be a little different but I don't, I'd probably just hang out nude in front of it... If they want to be bored to death by my computer using habits then more power to them.

This isn't going to get any better in the future. Cell towers log your movement patterns. TVs monitor your viewing habits. People willingly submit their driving logs to insurance companies, guess how long until it is mandatory. And on and on. All this shit isn't going to go away because you refuse to use modern technology. It is like trying to swim against the current, you aren't going to make any progress and eventually you will wind up down river anyway. Have fun trying to drive your horse and buggy down the freeway.

Linux does not leak any of your data. Unless you install some kind of program that is malicious, but chances are that would never make it in the standard repositories. Of course, don't use cloud storage etc. All your stuff should be and stay on your local network.

Do you have curtains on your windows? Then what do you have to hide?

Actually only about half my windows have curtains and those that do only have them because my wife got the arts and crafts bug last month. I'm cheap and my house didn't come with them, 7 years ago...

You have a bad attitude squirrel. You need to settle down and take your fucking like a... something... With an attitude change you'll probably even enjoy it.

I have windows 10 on my laptop and my desktop. I watch porn and browse the web like crazy. I don't get spam calls or spam snail mail. And I don't have to worry about a thing and live in a bunker. Life is good.

For now.

They still have to collect enough data and demographics for a few years before they can really do anything with the data. Then it will be sold off to the highest bidder and the government. I presume for a while MS will test their ad platform to promote their own products/services but eventually it will be advertisers too.

If you watch lot of porn expect lot of sex toy ads.

I think I'm gonna make it.

I will adjust and say I'm sure I get spam email but Gmail has such a good spam email filter I never see it.

I have never seen a sex toy ad ever. I don't watch a lot of porn but a normal amount.

The only time I see things related to my browsing history is when I look up an item on Amazon and it comes up in an ad on my Facebook feed. That's it.
