Can anyone recommend a good deal for FULL SPECTRUM LIGHTING?

It's a type of lighting that is supposed to mimic the light we get from
the sun, which reduces glare and makes detail work easier on the eyes.

I only know of Verilux and Ott-lite, but both systems cost almost
$100 just for a desk lamp.

Thanks

100% "Full Spectrum" is still not available at lower wattages but it should be available in the next few months. The "compact fluorescent light" (CFL) folks are getting ready to introduce a new full spectrum bulb that has the lumens of a 100 watter with only 9 watts of load...

So frickin move it there (delete this one and start a new one in the proper forum). Dont keep posting to it and bumping it to the top.

However, since I'm in a nice mood... If you have a Michael's Craft Store around anywhere, they have a 40% off any single item in the store coupon in almost every Sunday news paper. That makes a $100 light into a $60 light. On special occasions, they have 50% off coupons too if you feel like waiting for some holiday or something.

The most economical route is to go with 4' tubes. Osh sells dual bulb fixtures with an electronic ballast for around $18. My preference would be an Agrosun bulb which should run around $16~20. You can find them in hydroponics shops. Those small lamps don't seem to put out anywhere near the lumens of what the 40 watt bulbs do. I've used Ott 17 watt and seen the 13 watt bulbs, they are very accurate lighting but weak. If you can't get Agrosuns, either Ott or Verilux or will do (Agrosuns have the highest CRI and most lumens and cost about the same as the others).

Well you can use bulbs in your everyday socket that utilize neodymium rather than halogen for 92~99% full spectrum emulation. They draw the same amount of power as incandescent bulbs and put out less light on average than the inc. bulbs, so they are less efficient, but they are available now.

6500k metal halides would work. You'd have your own personal sun. Be sure to buy some shades.

The better place is to get the Triten50's which have a 4 year warranty and is supposedly the best of the Full Spectrum lighting and is made by a division of North American Philips. You can get it from NRG Saver Supply at http://www.nrgsaver.com/. You may want to call and ask for Jacie over there and tell them that Vince sent you and you might get a better deal and being able to buy in smaller quantities rather than the whole box.

from another site (http://www.naturallighting.com/fluorescents/triten.cfm) I found that they are (depending on the model) from 3500~5000K and 82~85CRI. How can they call that full spectrum? They do seem to put out a lot of lumens but I don't think this guy is interested in that.

If you are gonna pimp your junk here, at least be honest about it. Those Tritens are not full spectrum.

Well, it's marketed as full spectrum for one thing and I'm only using them, I don't sell these at all or anything. I mean go here and you can see it's sold as a Full Spectrum bulb and one of the most popular ones now by most of these lightning houses. Not to mention that your claim of the Aurora having the highest lumens and CRI is not accurate either. Remember I said Triten50 which is 5000K and CRI 82 and lumens of 3700 for a standard F40T12 bulb. The Triten35 is 3500k and the Triten41 is 4100K. Note the number after the word Triten. The CRI may be 3 lower than the Aurora but the lumens is 100 higher. Not to mention the price of the Aurora, you can buy 2 Triten50's already.

Just stay away from the ones made in Mexico as the USA ones are good but the Mexico ones have reliability problems.

Who's going to introduce them? GE? Sylvania? Philips? When will they be out? I love CFLs!

Hey, if you want to get a REALLY good CF lightbulb just go to Ahsupply which is where I got the lighting for my aquarium. 55 watt 5300K bulb with a CRI (Color Rendering Index) of 91-92.
Of course, they are aiming at aquarium hobbyists so you'd be buying a kit, but I'm going to be setting up some normal lighting using their setups also.
