Before anyone brings it up as defense of the police; the dead guys tox screen was negative. The police tried to say he was on something, he was not.

This is also the jury that someone posted the juries picture on the internet. Not sure if they were harassed after/before that but even the judge made a comment on the picture being sent out.

I'm not surprised at the verdict at all. It's unfortunate that they were acquitted of all charges and I truly believed they should have been found guilty of at least involuntary manslaughter and lesser charges.

I've watched the whole video and the homeless is pretty uncooperative at first. Had he cooperated, the situation would not have escalated. That does not mean that the cops were in their right to do what they did though.

The city also negotiated a $1M payout to his family outside of the criminal case.

Because of the acquittal, I'm now interested in the jury profile.

I am all for giving the police significant deference. It is a hard job and you can easily be put in a bad spot where you make the wrong decision. But Jesus, there has to be a line and the line seems so far away from here it's not even close.

Holy classism batman! You cannot give police preferential treatment without creating a separate class of people not subject to the same consequences as the rest of us. Classism is racism of the social order.

Supreme Court justices get to rule on cases as the highest law in the land. HOLY CLASSISM!

The President gets a veto over Congress. HOLY CLASSISM!

Employees at restricted sites get to enter restricted sites. HOLY CLASSISM!

Go away. You bore me.

Orange County. 'Nuff said.

Agreed. The police were doing what they get paid to do by the taxpayers. It's the same story in every wealthy community the world over. You never hear the complaints about racial profiling, classism, etc. because it's what the people of the community want, and the police treat the residents of the community with deference and respect while keeping a close watch on outsiders.

We live in some fucked up times when cops can beat a homeless man to death with video evidence and people in this country don't find them guilty.

In other words random people pulled from the general public are too dumb to serve on a jury?

Is that what you are saying?

If there is "any" reasonable doubt the jury had to find the officers not guilty. That is the way our legal system works. If you do not like the way the system works, instead of getting out of jury duty, try to get selected. Do your part to reform the system.

Jury nullification? Probably soon to be a felony .. ..

Police states use the court system to punish those who resist their abuses. Jury nullification could be a very useful tool of civil disobedience in the hands of an informed population. So I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water.

30 minutes of a helpless man being unmercilessly beaten...and killed. I guess that's one way to solve the homeless problem in Orange County.

If anybody had used violence to stop the assault on the homeless man, would they have been charged with a crime? Is it legal for a group of people to overpower the police when they are clearly beating a man to death? I would love to see an instance of this in America.

I have seen an instance of it in Spain and it was epic. The cops were beating a man in full view of a stadium of drunken soccer fans. Eventually they got pissed, jumped out of their seats and gave the cops a good beatdown. It was all caught on camera. Dunno if they went to jail or not for it, I do know that the cops ran off with the fans chasing them.

It's legal in Texas. There are several statutes which cover the use of force against a peace officer acting illegally. But I wouldn't try it if I were you.

It gets fun when you put all of this together. Now the police are allowed to tap your phone without a warrant, arrest you for no reason, and kill you for no reason.

If the DA has a video of you beating a homeless guy to death, and you're not a cop, you'd best be stocking up on soap-on-a-rope.
