<< if you sign up and don't want to go, just tell them you don't want to go. they can't do sh*t about it. the day you go to bootcamp, that's the contact that mean it. everything before that, if you change your mind, just tell them you don't want to go anymore, don't let them scare you said you don't get any kind of financial aid from the gov't when you go to college. said that to my friend, he got all got of aid and scholarship.

and if you are decide to go anyway, don't go as "open contact".

and btw, you get a lot of freebies from the recruiters, don't let them fool you.

I just thought I would let you know that this is not always the case.

I am a in the National Guard and in the guard you are considered active from the time you swear in. Which means there is NO backing out. In the guard you begin drilling even before you head off to basic. I'm told that it MIGHT be possible to cancel out before that first drill, but it's not likly to happen. If you are considering joining get use to the phrase "Hurry up and wait." They literally mean that. When dealing with military paperwork you might aswell go have a child or something while you are waitting for it to get back. I have had it take a year just waiting for a single signature. Unusual even for the military, but that is my best example.

I was considering joining the ROTC for college. I would really like to serve this country, so I don't feel like I'm in it for the monetary incentives (I don't plan to spend 20 years in the service though.)

What I would like to know is how are the scholoarships decided?
Will I get to "see the world" as a computer specialist or a JAG lawyer?
Will I see combat?

Does anyone have any websites with ROTC details, and how to choose from a branch of service?

Haha, my spelling is rather poor at the moment. Havent had too much sleep the past few days given the state of alarm this nation is at.

The military is what you make of it. If you go into it with a good attitude then you will enjoy yourself. If you go in and decide to scam your way through all four years, then you will have a lot of NCOs riding your a$$ and giving you hell. Shining your boots only take but a few minute to buff it up...you just need a good base coat and you'll be squared away. Uniforms only need to be pressed every few days if you heavy starch them. Just make sure you are in shape and you'll be alright. Dont worry if you are not in shape though...the military breaks you down and builds you back up. I've seen ppl lose 60-70 pounds in 3 months of basic training. PT every morning doesn't hurt either. The military retirement plan really isn't all that good since its only half of your base pay so you'll have to work as a walmart greeter afterwards.

German boy, I may disagree with what you have to said, but I will gladly lay down my life to defend your right to say it.
