I just heard this on the radio a few minutes ago. The Birmingham, Alabama area KIA dealer (Sarah KIA or something like that) is having Buy one KIA, get a 2nd Free!!

Even with that deal, I doubt they'll sell many, but I guess if you want 2 crappy cars, then this is your chance to get them cheap!!

This deal is "old", at least here (Louisville, KY) anyway, has been advertised for close to a year. You have to buy their minivan to get Rio free, it does not apply to any other car.

Yep, they advertise that deal here in Mobile and Pensacola, you have to buy an Optima or a minivan, and you get a free Rio.

The funny thing about it is..... I own a Rio. its a good, dependable, cheap car. I know nothing about the optima or the Minivan...... but you cant really go wrong with a cheap car that has a 100k mile warranty. If you were planning to buy a minivan anyway...... this would definately sway my vote in that direction.

Still, it's too expensive. I've been looking at the Hyundai Elantra, which is the same suspension/engine for $2k less.

I've never owned a Kia, but I have friends who have them and they seem to be pretty decent. It's a basic, no-frills car, but hey, where are you gonna get even a USED car with NO warranty for free?

We own the KIA Sedona minivan and it's a good inexpensive automobile. Fully loaded with every option at the time was about $20k and it's been a dependable automobile. Sure it's not as nice as a T&C with the fold-down seats and the engine doesn't get as good as mileage as the more expensive minivans however we haven't had any major problems with it in 2 years.

I've never owned a Kia and I'm guessing neither have you. I don't think they are crappy at all given the prices and warranty. In fact I read an extensive review 2 yrs ago when the minivan first came out and Car&Driver testers called it a hot buy because of the quality parts / built / strength of the vehicle.

When my settlement comes in I was going to buy a new van for my family. I have a friend that owns the van and it is very nice. Peppy v6 motor, and I am 6'4" 300+ lbs and I had plenty of leg and ass room. If I can get the van and the car for my wife for free and dump the 88 rusty cougar Im all over this when the time comes. Even if I have to drive out of state to the dealership to get it its worth getting the 8K car for free!

Same here. This thing was the absolute LAST vehicle my wife and I would EVER think of buying, but once you start fitting an SUV for a car seat, or trying to haul family to a ball game, you realize just how freakin' practical they are ! We both caved and bought a Sedona ... it met every criteria for a vehicle that we needed. You young'ins may scoff at the notion and yell out 'Soccer Mom' every time you see one, but the day will come when you will realize that the money spent is most wisely spent on a minivan.

BTW, the Sedona ranks very high on any minivan survey, coming in well over 3-5k lower than a comparable equipped model. In a recent USA Today article, Kia ranked second in owner satisfaction to Lexus, so unless you own one, you cannot slam this brand anymore.

I agree just pray you never get into a serious car crash.

If I wanted a cheap econobox I'd buy a clearance 2004 Hyundai Elantra auto with a/c, radio/tape/CD, power everything for about $10,988 out the door. Not that bad.

I think I shoudl help balance this thread out a little bit. I know several people who have had HORRIBLE experiences with their Kia's. Brand new cars that have to be repeatedly serviced. I don't see how you can justify buying a new Kia, which has questionable reliability, when you can just as easily purchase a year old mazda protege or toyota corolla for under 11k. The latter is the smart move, but sometimes people refuse to buy used cars...

And Kia has started getting decent reviews, but you can still get a much better barely used car for the same price. When they first released their models in the US, consumer reports said dont touch a Kia with a 10ft pole.

Kia and Hyundia have been doing a lot better in the past few years, they have really up'd their reliability and problems per new car.

In fact, Nissan now has more problems per new car than Hyundia and Kia...

They have been working hard on increasing thier quality to sell better here in the states, and if you ould open your eyes you would see that they are doing this...

If we all bought cars because of resale value then we'd all buy Honda Civics and Toyotas.

If you honestly think you get what you pay for then I highly recommend buying a Lexus, after all they are NOT just modified Toyotas with higher pricetags. In fact, my friend did NOT get a window replaced in his Lexus with an identical Toyota window. He really didn't.

I think its pretty ignorant to render Kia and Hyundai as something short of being 'box on wheels.'

I subscribe to about 3 Car Magazines for about 5 years now. Sure they're never on the cover, but the reviews I read of them are consistantly getting better and better.

As for the brand Kia and Hyundai, I think they are trying to make up for their tarnished reputation by offering 10 years/100,000 miles warranty. If you ask me, I'd rather buy a Kia or a Hyundai over Mistubishi stuff any day.

I bought a Hyundai XG350 L for my father-in-law. 5 years and $300 with $3,000 down. Its a solid car. Its quite, roomy. Its not lexus but can be compared to my mothers' Lexus ES300 (2002) without calling it a stretch.

Its foolish to trash Kia and Hyundai without having driven them lately.

So I should shell out $30,000+ and get a Lexus VS $17,000 on a KIA because the Lexus will hold its resale value better?
What if I can only afford $200 a month payment what am I to do then. Dman it I will walk I guess.
Buy it used with under 20k miles after the first intial resale loss and then you have one hell of a car with 8 years and 80K left on the warranty And not pay 20K but 14K instead. OH and the report also showed the van and the rio with a 5 star safety rating all the way around so seems safe to me to run it into a wall
