I'm sitting here thinking of a few years ago and why I actually joined this forum. Back in the day I used to creep this site/forum because I was a total computer nerd. I think I came here in 2001 but didn't actually join till years later. I built my own PC's, overclocked, had all the latest gadgets etc. Now I don't even care anymore. No more motherboard discussion threads, no more surfing the FS/T section and buying stuff, building heat (yea I do have heat! lol).

It's funny to think back now when I was still in high school and my life revolved around PC's and computer games lol. Skipping 2 months of class straight and gambling SOJ's in act 2, haha. Then reading all the latest video card reviews, tweaking my system for ultimate performance, and running 3D mark to see who's e-peen was bigger. It was a pretty cool time to be honest. Reading PC Accelerator, CGW, PC Gamer, and Maximum PC on the can, and drooling over the Alienware/Voodoo PC/Falcon-NW systems they had there on the covers. Color matching monitor, mouse/keyboard, and 5.1 Klipsch speakers! OMG!

I remember the times of switching 10 different mice and pads while playing quake 3, seeing which one felt the best. Buying Falcon 4.0 which at the time was the most demanding game ever, not to mention a 600 page manual in a binder that apperently gave some pretty realistic insight on how to really fly an F-16.

This forum/site at the time gave me all the knowledge I would ever want hardware wise, it was awesome. It's just funny thinking back and realizing that I actually did change a lot. I still try to read up on the latest stuff but not like before. Now I just spend 90 % of my time here in the Garage forum lol.

Props to everyone on here that was/is into computers/games as much as I was, honestly any computer problem I had I always got a solution for when I posted here.

In a way I kind of miss the excitment that it used to bring me, and I think at the time computers/online games were in a "Golden Age". Now it's nothing special as you can PS3/Xbox and have similar experiences, not to mention PC Gaming has slowed down a lot IMO, look at sites like Gamespot, they barely have anything PC wise covered there. Last time I picked up a PC Gamer at the store I laughed at how thin it was, compared to the issues in 1999 when it was thick like a bible.

I guess this is like my random/official good bye PC Gaming/Hardware fanatic thread. I had a great time, but I've moved on Although I am still very much so looking forward to Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2, and will get those games 100 %. As for PC's, as long as I'm able to surf the net and watch videos with no chops it's all good If a game I like slows down Ill upgrade, but no more getting a new video card every 3 months lol.

/blog

edit: Oh and I'd also like to add that picking out your PC parts, ordering them, and having them come in the mail was the best shit EVER! You'd open it up, start putting them all together, doing the cabling nice, tucking everything in, loading up the OS etc, installing all the latest drivers, and seeing how fast all your games ran on a new system. A good chunk of you have probably experienced this, but those who haven't gotta try it

I joined for the Hot Deals. Sad to see how all the good deals are long gone.

I think most pple reach that point. I remember when I bragged to the IT guy at my highschool that I had fastest comp in school. Had overclocked a t-bird axia stepping (scary how i still remember stepping). Anyway - those days are gone, I have barely upgraded my computer save for here and there since the IT guy said "what are you going to do with that speed"

Ha, i still remember those SOJs from Diablo 2, overclocking my AMD 2200+ t-bred on an epox mobo. I wish i had focused more on school back then. Computers are more of a distraction nowadays than anything. I cant say i've mastered my Biochemistry, Genetics or Organic chemistry books, much less needing a computer to study. People just grow up since you don't have as much time to fool around as a kid.

Eh...I've been fascinated in pcs since my dad bought a 286 in 1989, I was 10 at the time. I'm still fascinated with them.

When I joined here back in high school, I remember how exciting it used to be saving up money until I could buy that new processor or the new video card, then searching all over until I could find the best deal.

I think that, now that I'm out of college and have work experience and jobs and whatnot, the fun's kinda gone. My video card's acting up? Pop on over to NewEgg and have one shipped. I remember saving up $30 to buy my first TV tuner, and now I just spent $80 on one without any thought. Whereas before getting a new computer part or building a new computer was special, now it's just a commodity item in many ways.

i joined here cause i was getting lonely during the week. I don't live with my gf yet and she lives a fair way away. I dont really have many of friends, so i thought it was cool to talk to people from around the world.

I am going through that order parts phase, tearing the packet open and installing the equipment. I really enjoy modding my pc and i have plans to upgrade sound card and get studio monitors. Among other things...

One of the few things that really bothered me about Vista was MSs decision to rewrite the entire audio stack making the sound cards of the day basically obsolete. I still remember getting my first soundblaster card can't remember if it was a 16 or a pro and playing real music off either my HD or a CD. WOW real hi-fi music coming from my PC instead of that 80s synth!! Looking back on it now I actually miss the music of old in games like Kings Quest.

Well at least it's a classic on a classic system. I love vintage gaming!! But still fail on not playing the golden era adventure classics.

I still play several games of warcraft 3 TFT a week, ususally 3v3's etc, keeps me going. I think there is something very unique with Blizzard games that just keeps me coming back, I certainly have some of the best gaming memories from their games eg: Starcraft, Diablo 1/2, WoW, Warcraft RTS series.

numark: Yea I remember saving money up also. Basically all my money at the time went into PC's. It felt so real/exciting to be able to drop 400 bucks on a video card after you've been saving up for it. Last year I went to buy a Radeon 4870 and didn't feel much after buying it other than a slight tingle that my games ran faster.

While I may not read motherboard discussions every week, I read a bunch before doing my latest upgrade. Read a ton of stuff on Solid State Disks before purchasing an Intel one. Read a bunch on Intel i7 and whether it was worth it and what video card I planned to get. Spent hours searching for the right case. I've now got the best system I've ever put together. I don't brag about it because it's more of a guilty pleasure, but I'm certainly still a hobbyist.

I'm actually afraid to mention the speakers. Or the fact that I'm eyeing Sennheisers new headphones.
