Funny Six Flags rant...

Ive never been to "Kentucky Kingdom", but I found this on a message board, its too funny:

http://finance.messages.yahoo.com/bbs?....=8729374&tid=pks&sid=8729374&mid=17600

I've been to Kentucky Kingdom twice this year (2006), once just last week (Thursday, June 22), and previously in early June. I've also been to the park several times over the past ten years. Three weeks ago, for the first visit, I bought a season pass which is good for all Six Flags Parks, plus some coupons for freebies, for $70 each. Last week, I was shocked to see that they were offering "Kentucky Kingdom only" passes for the price of one day's admission of $39. I thought right away, "Oooo, this park must be hurting." The other thought that I had was, "can I get a rebate on my season pass" - turned out "no" was the answer to question #2.

Some things that I've thought about Kentucky Kingdom over the years....

1. It's a little trashy. The visit in early June this year, the trash cans were overflowing immediately in front of the park, right in front of the main offices. Nice welcome for people.

2. Why do we have to pay extra for such non-thrill rides as "the kids trampolines" for $5?

3. Why do the pools open a full hour after the park opens (park opens at 11 am Mon-Fri, 12 on Sat., not sure about Sun)? It's June, it's 90 degrees, you've already had to wait 30+ minutes in the sun (because there is NO shade at the entrance, just an obnoxious MC who teases the crowd about when the gates might or might now actually open - I wanted to grab the mike and ask the crowd, "Who will give me $20 to hurt this man?" - why would you have to wait ANOTHER 45 minutes after going through security (where they took my pocket knife with its' massive 2 1/2" blade) to get into the pool area? It's ridiculous that a park wouldn't open at 10 am, or earlier, in the middle of summer anyway... but to wait until noon to open the pool area is really stupid.

The only water that I could find for me, my six year old granddaughter, and my three year old grandson, was a sprinkler which happened to be watering the lawn - it was also watering the electrical box for the restrooms, probably not the smartest use of water, and probably not really what code enforcement would like to see. By the way... if you are at Kentucky Kingdom, and a member of your family gets electricuted because of the sprinkler watering the electric box - I make an excellent material witness.

Theres actually a part II to this, but its not as good as this one. Other posters have portrayed "Magic Mountain" as "Gangland". No wonder Six Flags wants to sell the whole park to developers for condos...

Why do you think they closed Astroworld in Houston down.
Trashy, and overrun with gangs. I was still sad to see it go though.

Cedar Point FTMFW!

The perfect mix of trailer trash and suburbanite snobs along a beautiful lakeshore where the workers are treated like slaves but the roller coasters are the best in the world!

A developer is looking into Six Flags Magic Mountain. Valencia, CA just north of L.A.
It's trashed, overrun with gangs, and just plain dirty. I'll miss the rides themselves, but that's it. Plus it's hot as hell up there.

I know. Its a shame though. I went there in Oct 2002 and rode one of the best coasters ever! I forgot the name of it, but the wait was about 1hr and 30 minutes just to get on it!

When I was a lad theme parks weren't as crowded and waiting for rides were no longer than say 20-30 minutes. People actually had fun back then and were quite friendly.

Now whenever I go to one, I always see a bunch of teenagers (who look like they are members of a gang) making out/giving dirty looks to people, etc.

I guess it's true what they say: nothing good lasts forever.

So untrue and so unfounded. AstroWorld closed because the idiot who was running the place thought he could get Six Flags more money than the property was worth. He told stockholders that the property would bring $145,000,000. When all was said and done it sold for $77,000,000 minus $20,000,000 for clean-up and demolition, netting Six Flags $57,000,000. Needless to say the guy was fired, but there was a silver lining for him. He got a $9,000,000 severence package. I wish my company would fire me like that.

The following is from saveastroworld.com

****1 Why was Astroworld closed?

Six Flags was in a real mess. Kieran Burke, the CEO of Six Flags was desperate. He had the stockholders breathing down his neck and had to do something. Six Flags was in debt for 2 to 3 BILLION dollars. Burke though the could make over 100 million of the sale of the property. So he decided to sell the property Astroworld sits on, telling everyone that the value of the land was far greater than the value of the park itself. Based on the fact he entertained no other offers, it is my belief that he had deal in place to sell the land before the announcement. Since the demo of Waterworld started pretty much immediately after the announcement, I think he had a very aggressive timetable to meet to clear the land.

Other than that, there really is no good reason. Burke was so desperate to keep control of Six Flags, he thought any infusion of cash would make the stockholders happy. He proceeded to put the chain up for sale, another desperate move. He then LIED to the stockholders saying he was getting offers when in fact we found out that was not true.

Burke was a pathetic man, a poor leader and had no business running Six Flags. He did more damage to the company than any of the previous owners combined. So looking at those facts, is it hard to believe he could screw up so bad he costs us our park that we loved?

Thankfully Burke was removed by the Stockholders. Now in place is Mark Shapiro who seems much more qualified to run Six Flags. Shapiro has a team in place that is made of the best in the business so hopefully an occurrence like this will not happen again.****

This is why you got theme parks in may and september when most young kids are in school....me as a college kid thats what I do. I've been to Cedar Point twice this year(longest i had to wait for any ride was 1.5 hours, most lines were under an hour) and now I wont go again until september....

Six Flags Great Adventure isn't THAT bad... the only thing I don't like about it is the obnoxious New Yorkers. I also hate crowds, so we haven't gone in two years.

Six Flags over Georgia wasn't too bad the last time I went a couple of years ago. I don't know what its like now. The worst part was the people wearing skin tight, revealing clothing that had no business wearing skin tight, revealing clothing.

I used to get season passes for six flags, but they got to be too crowded, too expensive, and just not that great.

But to the OP: i didn't think the rant was funny. I didn't mind reading it, but I didn't see it as funny, per se.

amusment parks are hurting. I went to six flags in arlington last summer with the family and there were like 100 people in the whole park. Even my kids were wore out early because they never got a chance to rest in line.

Been to kentucky kingdom the year before that and never had any of those problems.

Fixed

Went to Disney World during the off-season a few months ago and it was still packed. Not as insanely packed as it is now but it was packed.
