"You know how embarrassed you get when mom shows the relatives that photo of you as a baby, naked on the bearskin rug? Wait until your kids get a look at pictures of you and your car.

It's not too late. "

Trust me on this... He's right.

The stupid, tacky things you do as a teen WILL embarrass you when you get older.

The term, "what was I thinking???" didn't come from nowhere.

Everybody is embarrassed at themselves when they look back. You think most adults are proud of disco? What about the acid shirts? Look back 10 years ago on your haircut and you're not embarrassed?

Please, it's bad enough having to worry about your image in the present, and now you want kids (out of all the people) to start worrying about not only how they look now, but also how they look 20 years down the road?

Get a grip. We live in a world that prides and spews crap about individualism. Yet when a small fraction strays from it, people start whining and complaining about them... how they're not part of the collective, that they're dumb, stupid, distasteful, wasteful, etc etc. Mind your own business.

Hmmm, loud boom boom modded cars are being individualistic? BS. They're part of a group just like everyone else.

In fact, they DON'T mod their cars to be individuals. They mod their cars to fit in and BE part of a group.

Talk about spewing crap...

And no, we aren't proud of disco, new wave, or hippies. All silly fads that people cringe when they remember participating in them.

It's called being on the Import scene. And if you look at the people who are seriously into it (go to a show some time), you'll see that no 2 cars are alike. Last time I checked, that's being individualistic...

Some people got no style when they "rice-up" their cars... ie. ugly paint colours; gigantic ugly spoilers; dumb lookin body kits; loud, annoying music; and lame-ass stickers...

But you gotta admit that some cars look SWEET riced-up!

Just a thought...

They are very alike. The basic theme is the same, as are the types of mods. Only the combination of mods applied are different.

It's like a woman going to a party. She has to have an expensive designer dress that follows certain styles, but not one that is exactly like what someone else at the party is wearing. The ONLY individuality here is in the details, NOT the basic premise.

Being an individual isn't being unique... it's expressing yourself individualistically, and not according to what the 'status quo' is. Of course it's belonging to a group, but it's an individuals choice.

Talk about spewing crap...

Too bad you have no idea what you're talking about. Take some lessons in the behaviorial and social sciences then come back to me and see whose spewing crap.

And no, we aren't proud of disco, new wave, or hippies. All silly fads that people cringe when they remember participating in them.

You don't know what's a fad or not until it's over. You may not like it, but fads are often receive the most attention... you may not think disco was cool, but some people sure did back then. And although you may not like the look of rice-up cars, some people do... and i'll bet they on average have a more active life than most of you guys that do nothing but sit on these boards whining how bad rice-up cars are. You're not going to perpetuate a behavior if you don't get rewards from it.

And as for people 'cringing' when they look back... hm maybe, but most of the people i know don't. They laugh and are sometimes embarass of some of the thigns they did, but they don't normally regret it. It's great being 'cool'. Perhaps you just don't understand.

Jim Kenzie is an assneck. He sucks on Motoring 2002 on TSN, and he sucks writing articles for local newspapers.
This man is the least tolerant person I've ever seen on television.

You have no idea what being individualistic is... to you, it's being unique. It's not, because you can never be unique. It's making decisions and behaviors based upon egotistical reasons. BIG DIFFERENCE.

These people are doing what they think is fun. To you, it might be ugly, but to them, it's fun. You may want your life to be controlled by how you want others to view you 20 years down the road... but i'll rather live in the present.

we had a guy like that on our HS newspaper. He happens to also be the sole reason that the school no longer has no paper. On the brighter side of things, He's an elitist HIPPOcritic loser who has no friends. can you feel the love?

Hey, kids. This isn't just galloping old-fartism here. You know how embarrassed you get when mom shows the relatives that photo of you as a baby, naked on the bearskin rug? Wait until your kids get a look at pictures of you and your car.

It's not too late.

It's nonsense to you because you have no idea what Individualism is. To you, it means being unqiue... but that's not what it means. Here's a link to the differences between a Individualistic society vs. a Collectivist society:

Contrasts between Individualism and Collectivism

Now do you understand? Whether or not you understand it is not my concern, some people just want to stay ignorant, and that's fine with me.

So I used the wrong term. We know what I meant, and here it is:

Main Entry: in·di·vid·u·al·i·ty
Pronunciation: -"vi-j&-'wa-l&-tE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -ties
Date: 1614
1 a : total character peculiar to and distinguishing an individual from others b : PERSONALITY
2 : archaic : the quality or state of being indivisible
3 : separate or distinct existence
4 : INDIVIDUAL, PERSON

<< That article is horribly written and biased. Narrow minded writer. >>

Most writing is biased. The whole point of writing is to get an opinion across. Opinions are subjective and thus biased.
Did you not pay attention in school?

To have a "cool" car and gain the acceptence/admiration of one's peers.

And your point? My point is that individualism doesn't mean uniqueness... and in that definition, nowhere does it say uniqueness. It does say 'distinguishing' themselves from others... which is what fads are all about. Of course it's to belong to a group, but it's to belong to a group that is distinguishing themselves from the mainstream of society.

To have a "cool" car and gain the acceptence/admiration of one's peers.

If you aren't aware of this yet, social acceptance is going to be a theme throughout all stages of life, not just adolescent/young adulthood. Infact, having a high social interest IS healthy... it just depends on what that social interest is.

I dont have much against ricers, apparently not as much as this writer, but the article was kinda funny.

The thing that makes me laugh, is these guys think their 200hp car is a "hot rod".. please, I am only 24, yet
I know what a "hot rod" or a "musclecar" is. (old school) Its not some foriegn hunk of crap you have to put $20,000 into
to get 12 or 13 second 1/4 mile times with.. Just my opinion.
