I would rather choose click here cuz I have no nuts than say futurama pwnz family guy. I'm sorry, but as far as animated primetime shows go, nothing comes close to the hilarity of family guy.

This is true...like the humor here:

When at the races and they measure the winner with an electron microscope and the professor gets upset and says "You changed the result by measuring it!"

Very funny to those in the know.

One of my favorite lines in Futurama of all time:

Zapp: ?The alien mother ship is in orbit here. If we can hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards? checkmate.?

Family Guy will usually make me laugh out loud more, but I respect the writing it takes to put together a show like Futurama or the Simpsons infinitely more. Family Guy can be downright hilarious, but its jokes are just so easy by comparison. The storylines for the show and characters come in a distant second as far as the laughs go. It's all about cramming in as many random jokes and older/obscure pop culture references as possible - the more awkward the lead-in or segue, the better. Shows like the Simpsons and Futurama have plenty of pop culture references too, but it's obvious the framework of the main story and characters take greater precedence.

This is why Family Guy doesn't hold up as well under re-runs for me personally compared to the Simpsons, Futurama or even King of the Hill. Once I've seen the random jokes or pop-culture references which really drive Family Guy and make it funny, the novelty of it is gone. The storylines are so sliced up by the jokes that it's not very compelling. And while the characters themselves are still funny, they don't really have much depth as they're primarily there to deliver one-liners. Whereas a show like the Simpsons, Futurama, or KOTH, I don't mind watching the same episode over and over again as the story and character writing is much stronger IMO.

People who think Family Guy is funnier just have a more blunt sense of humor. They need to be smacked in the face with it, they need to be told when to laugh. But the great thing about Futurama is you can laugh at anything, because you know what the writers were thinking when they added a certain joke, and you feel almost like the humor is personal to you. You know why it's funny. It's just on a slightly higher level. Not to say Family Guy isn't funny, I just like the brand of humor displayed in Futurama better. It doesn't get tiresome as quickly.

OMG BEST POST EVAR

More like you just don't get the Family Guy references. Yea. Did you pick up the North by North Quahog 401 episode? North by Northwest by Hitchcock? Hmm? What about the music when they abducted Lois? It's more like you don't laugh sometimes in Family Guy or you think it's random because you don't get it.

Exactly...what's funny about FG is the OBSCURITY of the humor. You have to be an expert on pop culture to get all of the jokes. Most of the gags in FG are a reference to something else, and you have to figure it out. For instance, in one of the last episodes I watched there was this:

Peter: Bob's Funland and Putt-Putt Golf! The grown-up likes the prospect of fun...(turns into a child) But the kid in me is suicidal over what a fat bastard I'll become!

This is a parody of the Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats commercials from the 90's, where the adult would profess to like the mini-wheats because of their nutritional value. Then, the adult would be replaced with a child in the same clothing, and the child would profess to like the mini-wheats because of their frosted side.

People under 25 have trouble getting FG a lot of the time

nope. i get it. but i find it too dumbed down in it's appeal to the lowest common denominator, the vastly childish, slapstick humour that most of it seems to rely on

This is exactly the opposite of what FG is. Are you sure you've ever seen the show?

its funny but i like the obtuse allusions in family guy better.
i seem to recognize all of them which, if my girlfriends younger siblings are any indication, isnt really necessary to enjoy the show.
while i like both shows, futurama does have a geek-slant that makes it a cult hit. but family guy still throws me and gets me laughing out loud even at episodes ive seen.
when animated facial expressions make me laugh, i have to admit defeat.

edit:
im not going to pretend like im a pop-culture expert because i "get" family guy...or that im super smart. i just watched a lot of tv, old movies and mst3k growing up. the tv show is the post-modern sitcom.

I personally like the absurd, random nature of the jokes in Family Guy. I will agree that the jokes in Futurama are more subtle but I don't think they hit you as hard as the ones in Family Guy. I can't say that I've ever laughed to the point of tears to Futurama but I have on several occasions watching Family Guy. That's not to say Futurama isn't funny, I just prefer the absurd and random jokes of Family Guy.

I also like that I have to look up some of the people they are making fun of on Family Guy. The joke may make no sense at all when you are watching it but once you look it up, the pieces fall into place and you start cracking up.

lol, i remember they made a reference about a guy that lived in colonial times (forgot his name), and then they showed the guy and he was like "you dont even know who i am."... it made me lol, because it was true...
