Whenever you all start to get your cards, if you are into overclocking, please let us know what sort of clocks you are getting.

Hopefully afterburner will be updated soon to unlock voltage control.

Don't worry I will. I hope I can hit 1300 with voltage tweak lol.

I've a Zoltec Amp 470 at the moment and it's fine for everything I play at 1920x1600.

Unless a new title comes out that is extremely graphically impressive and causes lag, I'll keep the card for another generation. Plus, it would be good to find out what Nvidia offers as a response...

If I had the money burning a hole in my pocket, it would be a no-brainer.

I'm going to wait and see how retail cards overclock before I think about getting one. If they are like the review samples then I'm in for one. I hope some aftermarket coolers come out soon since the reference design seems loud.

It isn't 6990 loud which is a good thing.

My gf told me the 7970 would be fine yesterday but to make sure it won't be as loud as that card you got for your anniversary...was a reference to a 6990 i toyed with before its ungodly noise level drove us crazy and i returned it.

Thought the reviews were bias about the card and exaggerating boy was i wrong....shocked the gf remembered the noise level of the 6990 which was funny.

lol, you still cant accept that this was a paper launch even after the reviews told you? cards will be available January 9 so save your finger for more important tasks...

You guys with powerful 68 or 69xx board have no reason to upgrade to a 79xx

You will not notice a difference in game performance with same settings.

Your getting 60fps already capped,, in BF3 MW3 , NFS RUN ,, how much faster you wanna go ??? Unless your obsessed with anti aliasing and wanna use 32xAA then ya maybe you need this upgrade LMAO

A 6970 isn't always enough for a 30" monitor. I just bought one with my Christmas bonus and found that I've had to at least turn off AA for some games and other I've had to turn down settings to keep it a native resolution.

I'm kidding man. Just my way of saying that I'm eagerly awaiting available product.

This place is so intense lately.

Ditto, but with I'm on a 580. It is a beastly card but after a year with it and knowing it's limits, I'm ready to play with something new and exciting that has a more Umphhh even if it is a only a moderate bump in performance.

This is false. I play Skyrim on a GTX 580 with lots of texture mods and enhancements on a 30 incher and a 120hz 1080per and it is fairly easy to get my framerates into the 30's and 40's on either one. That is with ZERO AA @ 2560 x 1600 and 2X AA at 1080p.

The 7970 shows a very good performance increase over the 580 in Skyrim. That is reason enough for me to upgrade alone.

Huh. I'm not.

Must be my triple monitors...

No thanks. There is no reason to buy one running at 1080p. I'll wait for the 580 price drop or to see what nvidia has to offer.

So, reviews are out on the 7970 and we know how it performs -- who's buying at least one (or trying to) on January 9?

I'm in for one

I was looking at mid 7xxx series crossfire to replace my existing 4890s(got 2 for $440 over about 3 months). Battlefield 3 (expansion city maps especially) is the first game to make me feel that they are not enough for 1900x1200 high settings in multiplayer.

My XFX 4890's heat sink is failing on an already hot running card. So I'm being forced to make a choice now and the 7970 with its good OC headroom seem like a solid long term choice @ the ~$500 range I was looking to stay in.

I think you'll love your 7970. Crossfire/SLI are a whole bag of headaches anyway.

I'd be in if I could get a better cooler immediately instead of the garbage reference design. 7970s need some major overclocking to be worthwhile over my 580s, otherwise its only about 5-15% advantage at stock speeds for the games I care about.
