future drivers for voodoo video cards?

I was thinking about buying either a voodoo 3 3000 PCI or a voodoo 4 4500 PCI..., but are they gonna make more drivers for these video cards???

If they are not going to make more drivers, how long would these video cards last?

There is talk in the forums at x3dfx.com that at least one more driver release is going to come out for the Voodoo4 and 5. There is even a mysterious "Beta Testing" forum that not many people can look in.

3dfx cards and drivers were the least problematic in the industry.
if you are hoping for magic like tile based rendering or full DX8 compatibility with new drivers forget it. the voodoos work and they have always worked. if any developers somehow manage glitches with their new games, they (likely) will patch them themselves because of the large installed base of voodoo users.

I also wanted to let you in on a site that supposedly has contact w/ the developers and is going to continue to release drivers as time goes on. Omega Drivers

I'm using them on my V32k and Velocity video card, (half a V32K) w/ good results...

I doubt we will see any more "official" driver releases but we may see a few third party drivers.
Too bad because IMHO 3dfx drivers were always the best/most stable/reliable.

seeing as 3dfx drivers were pretty sweet with Win2k and were pretty good with 9x, unless Windows XP screws something up, these will last quite a while.

unfortunately for me, my Aureal Vortex 2 soundcard faces a different fate, however I'm still hopeful that some people will have released a better driver when(more likely IF) I actually am forced to go Win2K, after all, developement is still going for Vortex cards in Linux.

hmm, maybe I should just run pure linux eh? screw worrying about future drivers
