My apartment has gated assigned parking, so luckily it's not a random person that scratched my car, it's the one with the stall next to mine. Anyhow, I noticed yesterday evening that my car had a 6 inch blue line across the back of my driver side mirror. Upon further inspection, I noticed the following:

- A few scratches at least 1 ft long on my front bumper
- A big scratch across the entire driver side front quarter panel (3 ft or so?)
- A 2-3 inch scratch on my driver side door
- That 6 inch scratch on my mirror.

Her car is scratched up quite a bit (I noticed before the accident), so I assume she doesn't think too much regarding scratches. There was no note or anything. Her car hasn't been back yet in the adjacent stall, so I can't verify the black marks on her car (my car's black, her's is blue).

Anyhow, I took photos of the damage, and am trying to get her contact information through my apartment manager. Then, I was thinking of getting quotes for repair, and asking her to pay it, or go through my insurance. I was thinking about getting a police report, but I read somewhere they aren't given if on private property. Are there any other things I should do?

Thanks.

if the scratches on her car correspond to yours, wouldn't pictures of it be grounds for a hit and run case?

tell her to pay up or you go to police and your insurance company with the pics?

Whether can get a police report or not will depend on your state. We do here but I know some states don't. You'll really need to see her car before jumping the gun, it is possible another car did it although unlikely from you description. I would hate to accuse her before even seeing her car.

Holy shit, I came to post the same thing. Some jackass dinged the shit out of my car today too. I fucking hate people with a passion. It broke the paint, but it bothers me more that I can see the curved reflection from the damn ding.

People fucking suck.

That happened to me once. While I was IN THE CAR. My wife's car has dark tint and it was dusk, so the perp couldn't see me. This piece of shit passenger opened her door and it slammed my wife's car. She then closed the door and slammed it into my wife's car again, this time on purpose. I hopped out of the car and she looked at me with an "Oh shit ..." face and said, "I ain't know nobody wuz in der." I replied, "That shouldn't fucking matter."

Long story short, her insurance paid for it.

Haha! Brilliant!

Happened to me too. I had just parked my Mazdaspeed 6 and a woman in a Mercedes SUV parked next to me (and really close for some reason) and the wind caught her door and it slammed into mine. Was REALLY loud from inside my car. Her insurance paid for it.

I would kill them and eat them, not necessarily in that order. Remove their wallet first though, so you can also pay for the damages.

Dang, that's one crazy dent you had there Zap.

Anyhow, to update, I contacted my apartment management, and they called her, but she said she wasn't at fault. While they were calling her, I was at a body shop getting an estimate, and they hand polished off almost all of the scratches and blue paint. Although I'm lucky not to have to take any further action, it's still painful to know people won't suck up for their mistakes. Hence why I moved to a different spot. POS driver.

I carry one of these in the car.

First I'm nice and allow them to a chance to own up.

If not... oh well. I figure people who aren't willing to own up or are driving around a beater they don't care about are probably driving without insurance as well and can't afford to replace $1000 worth of glass... not my problem.

Anyone with insurance isn't going to be hostile or try to avoid taking responsibility usually.

What are they going to do? Call the cops? Didn't they just say they won't respond on private property? Oops.. Oh also you're driving without insurance too, and might even be illegal. Hey 5 minutes ago you were nervous and said you didn't want to deal with police. So go ahead and call.

Better go get your glass replaced. You park outside and it's raining soon... and remember me next time you nonchalantly damage someone else's belongings.

Hmm good point. Might come back to bite me in the ass doing that while visibly armed.

So when someone rolls their eyes and says "pfftt whatever you can't do nothing" and waddles off to their destination, they will come back out to see just how much "nothing" really is.

Start the car, reach out my window to theirs *CLICK* drive off. Nobody will hear a thing over my car and if the alarm goes off people will just think its my loud exhaust which will probably have set off 3 other alarms anyway.

Any other questions?

I respect people and their property until they show me that they can't return the favor. At that point they drop down about 250 positions in the food chain to me. If I have no legal recourse (eg: cops won't come to private property and driver won't provide info) I will find other means.

Hell I loosely followed someone in my Camry after they "raced" me and cut me off and laughed at me in the mirror. Knowing where they lived and their route to work, I camped out for a week at that intersection until I ran into them at the same light again this time in the Cobra. The dead straight ahead stare and the dumb look on their face like they just got caught with their hand in a cookie jar, when I rolled down my window and looked them in the eye and asked "whats wrong?", confirmed they remembered me.

If I go that far just from someone punking me at a light like that. Imagine if they damaged my property.

I'm not saying I'm not a fan of occasional vigilante justice. What I am saying is that if you're unlucky, someone you do that to will react in ways you might not want.

Man I mean this as respectfully as possible (as I respect your opinion and input greatly on the forums) but you have some serious issues. I mean, we all do on some level, but if that story is true you need to seek some help with your car or insecurity issues. Also, please don't kill anybody acting stupid on the road.

How do you mentally handle it when someone is faster than your cobra?

I drive a fast car, and I have only had someone try to 'redlight race' me one time. Once. In like, 3-4 years. Maybe it's because I don't drive around eyeballing people or revving my engine, I dunno.

Ouch. My dings less than a dime and I am going to have a pdr guy look at it today or tomorrow. Sometimes the small dings are the worst, because it's not enough to call insurance, and expensive as shit for just a ding...lol

Oh well...three years with my car and I got my first real ding. That's not that bad I guess. :\

And all of these stories are why I park my nice cars in the back corner of parking lots. It really sucks to have that mentality, and I hate to 'concede' to total inconsiderate assholes, but society at large is simply to shitty to drive something you care about and park it in regular places.

It's gotten to where I don't mind the extra walking or anything. I take some time to enjoy the fresh air and 20-30 seconds of quiet time.

This is what I do every day. Sometimes you can't avoid it though. I was on the street for literally 10 minutes.

What killed me is I had a basket on Amazon saved for detailing stuff so I can try to detail my car (Was gonna clay bar, Zaino...etc.) and now I have to waste that money on fixing a ding.

This is why I park as far away from everyone every time I go somewhere. I enjoy the extra walking, anyway.

i drive a stock, non turbo subaru. i get evos, wrx/ sti and civics all the time revving at me trying to instigate a race. i think tis funny, and usually ill smile, rev up a bit and let them take off like a bat out of hell, then drive off normally. the latest was 2 days ago on baseline in tempe. a guy in a black trans-am with a v8 in it kept sitting next to me, dropping it a gear and chirping the tires trying. i just looked at him and smiled, kept on going about 5 over the limit. when i finally turned a couple miles up, i noticed a sti had come up next to him and was revving him up. he decided that was the time to stop trying to race, apparently. hearing the turbo whine was probably a big factor there tho. i dont stare at people revving my engine or anything to instigate this stuff, just some people have the need to do that to certain types of cars.
