Fvck Apple

Apple sold me a defective piece of crap also known as a macbook. I went to return that lump of poo and they insisted on charging me a $100 restocking fee even though it was defective. They basically told me to fvck off.

I called Citibank to dispute the charges and 1 week later the charges were refunded

Pretty much all companies charge a re-stocking fee. Why didn't you send it back for repair? That service is free....

No, they really didn't. If you had exchanged it for a working MacBook you wouldn't have been charged a restocking fee.

At home this morning I tunneled into my work network from my macbook. I was checking the error logs on a server using Remote Desktop over a VPN client running on an XP virtual machine running on OSX. Fast and flawless. XP runs as fast in emulation as it ran natively on my Dell 700m. It also has a fantastic keyboard, a very good screen and is quite solidly built.

It really is a damned impressive machine - it's a shame Apple has had so many QC problems with it. I understand that Apple has fixed most of them in the latest builds. Mine is about a week old and it's deathly quiet, doesn't show any signs of discoloring, and is not excessively hot. We'll see.

Anyway, sorry you had a bad experience with yours. I really think Apple rushed these things to market too soon. It's a shame because it's a great design and a great concept. Time will tell.

Apple is like every other manufacturing company - a certain percentage of their products have flaws and should be exchanged. Even if only 1% of their machines have problems from the factory, that's still like 10,000 machines that are problematic assuming they make a million of them. OP, it seems like you set yourself up for your situation - you were ready to return it the moment it failed you. Why didn't you just exchange it for a working model? That's like buying ram from Crucial, getting a bad stick, and calling Crucial a stupid company and never buying from them again. If Crucial had to test every stick of ram it'd end up costing us like $300 per stick instead of $80. Despite the hype, Apple is just like every other manufacturing company - they make electronic gizmos and not all are perfect. It's just reality. I'm really happy with my MacBook, maybe you should give them another chance

There is a Remote Desktop client for Mac OS X...I don't see the need to have a virtual machine as the middleman
