OP, it seems like you set yourself up for your situation - you were ready to return it the moment it failed you. Why didn't you just exchange it for a working model? That's like buying ram from Crucial, getting a bad stick, and calling Crucial a stupid company and never buying from them again. If Crucial had to test every stick of ram it'd end up costing us like $300 per stick instead of $80. Despite the hype, Apple is just like every other manufacturing company - they make electronic gizmos and not all are perfect. It's just reality. I'm really happy with my MacBook, maybe you should give them another chance

Sensibility FTW!

No, they really didn't. If you had exchanged it for a working MacBook you wouldn't have been charged a restocking fee.

Exactly. Why didn't you just exchange it for a new one?

There is a Remote Desktop client for Mac OS X...I don't see the need to have a virtual machine as the middleman

Microsoft is too lazy to port it over to Intel, so it runs in Rosetta. Running everything through the virtual machine is not only more integrated (since it is Windows to Windows), but faster since it is a windows native client.

Yes, but that's not the only thing I use the VM for.

clown.
I hope you get charged a $100 re-stocking fee next time you have to refund an item.

Have had it happen, yet I didn't cry and post it in a public forum.

Would you do it again, or choose a company with less expensive customer service?

just blew $1200 at the place on a new screen not 2 weeks ago. They were cheaper by a long way and I was positive I wanted it

I was checking the error logs on a server

Any bets on that server not being OSX based? Boy, you're so smart (not)

My view on OSX is quite simple. Why should I bother with an operating system designed for people too ignorant to find the start menu in Windows XP, and which no IT dept I've ever encountered will fvucking bother with nor trust in a server farm?

I wonder if it has anything to do with your childish, vulgar language?

If you can't handle vulgar language get out. I'd be just as ticked off after spending >$1,000 and being treated like crap when it's defective.

They would have exchanged it for you.

What in God's name compelled you to get an Apple?

He wanted a refund, not a replacement.

It's b/c:

1. You sound like a spoiled whiny brat that doesn't know how to handle situations like an adult.

2. You are lacking a lot of detail about the situation and you expect us to just side with you about how "apple tried to screw you"?

3. You are a noob for not exchanging it and avoiding a restocking fee

4. If you were within 14 days or 30 days (or whatever the time limit is) and the unit was defective, then you would get a refund w/ no restocking fee. By you saying you got a restocking fee indicates that you either are: a) lying about this story, or 2) you had buyer's remorse and tried to return it w/o penalty c) you just suck at interpersonal skills

5. you suck and are annoying.

Funny how in calling other people ignorant you've displayed your own ignorance. Designed for people too ignorant to find the start menu in Windows XP... that's one of the stupidest things I've ever seen posted here.

I run OSX on my laptop at home because it interests me, and because as an IT professional I feel it's important to learn new things. Millions of people are using OSX right now, and knowing how to deal with them can only make one more competent and marketable, especially if one isn't an arrogant, juvenile little asshole about less tech-savvy users. No, I wouldn't run it on my servers at work - because like XP, it is a client operating system and running that on servers would be stupid - just as running Server 03 on one's laptop at home would be - or commuting to work everyday in an 18-wheeler because somebody told you it's "what professional drivers drive".

Most of the membership here at ATOT is filled with people who hate themselves but want to be badasses on the internet. Since they can't do anything good in the real world they'd rather flex their internet muscle and show everyone who's boss.

WTF is so hard to understand about "defective product?" It was defective, if you purchased a defective product, you wouldn't want to pay any goddamned restocking fee either.

did you see anandtech's server benchmarks for OSX? a PPC dual G5 almost DOUBLED in server speed going from OSX to Linux. of course, it still didn't beat Opteron/Linux combo
Opteron/Linux was anywhere from 2-5x faster than dualG5/OSX.

Link for those crying shens - or apple fanboys

What's hard to understand is his definition of "defective". He didn't even bother to explain what it was that was defective. For all we know, he took it home, saw it wasn't a Dell, and went back crying to the Apple store.

If you walk into any store and say "I want to return this product, its defective", will their response be "alright sir, here's your money back, sorry for the problem", or will they ask "what exactly is wrong with it?"
